Men's Basketball
|
The Husson Eagles men's basketball team is often a symbol of what athletic excellence at the University is all about. With a rich tradition and history dating back to the first team in 1954 under Head Coach Del Merrill, to the successful years of the Bruce MacGregor era (1969-1993), and currently under Head Coach Warren Caruso, the Eagles look to continue this excellence. Throughout the years, the team has appeared in a total of twelve National Tournaments, and has broken into the top 25 national rankings in the NAIA almost every year. In 1989, Husson received their highest ranking of #4 in the nation. In the 2002-2003 season, the team had a record of 23-6, while winning the conference. Traditionally, Husson provides a high level of competition for many of Maine's best basketball players. Some of the best and most well known high school basketball players in the state play for the Eagles after their high school careers are over. The team takes annual trips all over the nation to showcase this mix of local and national talent. Most recently, in the winter of 2005-06, the Eagles played in a tournament in California's Bay Area, Oakland and San Fransisco, and in 2007 participated against one of the Nation's top NAIA teams, Embry Riddle, in Florida. Over the past 38 seasons, Husson has averaged an incredible 21 wins per season. Coach Caruso has certainly continued this tradition of winning and excellence that has been established over the last 40 years. |
