The world of professional audio is broad, exciting, and competitive. NESCom Audio Engineering is unique in its diverse approach to preparing students for success in this rewarding industry. In addition to music production and recording, NESCom can prepare graduates for a variety of audio careers including post-production, live sound, and broadcast audio.
Audio Engineering students receive training in recording, mixing, and editing; a foundation in the physics of sound and electricity; and an in-depth survey of popular music fundamentals. With plenty of hands-on labs, students learn engineering techniques from expert faculty as they master equipment in world-class studios. Following a junior year choice between a focus in music recording or post-production, students culminate their studies with either a music album project, or a film or TV project in which they must capture, edit, and mix all dialogue, music, and sound effects.
For Fall 2020, Communications Technology will be replaced by two new programs:
Audio Engineering with concentrations in Music Production, Post Production and Live Sound Production
Video Production, with a concentration in Film Production
The optional Biochemistry concentration for Biology students works for those interested in a broad-based biology/chemistry curriculum whose flexible design allows students to create a customized major that fits their own unique interests. At Husson, the biochemistry concentration increases student understanding of fundamental and advanced biological and chemical processes. The Biology degree with a concentration in Biochemistry also positions successful graduates for careers or graduate school.
This program is ideal for students interested in biological science or research careers. The program’s flexible design allows students to create a customized curriculum tailored to their own unique interests. The degree includes courses that focus on biology at the molecular, cellular, organismal and population levels. The Biology program prepares students for successful admission into postgraduate programs in biology or for a range of careers in the life sciences. Students receive highly individualized attention as they increase their understanding of fundamental and advanced biological principles. All biology majors must complete a research project in their senior year that requires original experimentation. Students have the option of completing a biology degree with a concentration in Biochemistry or Environmental Science.

Small Business Entrepreneurship — Students interested in starting their own business or who would like to work in a small business environment would benefit from the specialty classes offered to students in this concentration. Many current and future job opportunities will be with small and family-owned businesses.
Financial Management — Students in this concentration will take courses to prepare them to work in various capacities in banks, as stock brokers, insurance agents, consultants or in real estate.
Financial Planning — As with many Maine professions, many of the current financial planners are near retirement age, and firms are looking for new entrants into this field. This concentration will enable students to sit for the CFP exam and make them more marketable.
General — This concentration covers all areas of business. It also offers several open electives giving the student an opportunity to focus on a particular area of interest.
Healthcare Management — This program challenges students to explore the organizational structure of healthcare institutions and develop an understanding of the interrelatedness of psychological, social, cultural and political factors in healthcare delivery.
Interdisciplinary Program of Study — This program allows a student to combine two of the above concentrations. Currently, combinations are offered for finance and hospitality management, accounting and hospitality management, and sports management and hospitality management.
International Business — Students graduating with this concentration will have broad exposure to the global economy and will be prepared to work in international marketing, sales or management.
Management — This concentration gives a complete overview of the various business administration areas and provides the graduate a great deal of flexibility in the job market because of the broad education background.
Marketing Management — This program covers a broad range of subjects, but will require specific courses that help prepare students to work in sales, advertising, marketing research, public relations, or the media.
Business and Liberal Studies is a multi-disciplinary program of study (MPS) for students who are looking for a more holistic education. Designed to sharpen your competitive edge. You’ll develop the ability to think analytically, critically, and creatively. The focus behind this degree is to increase the value and make meaning out of a liberal arts education by combining required courses in the general education curriculum with a focus on business courses and science and humanities electives. This program will expand your world view and prepare you for the business skills to lead both for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises.
If you have an Associate’s degree or Applied Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited community or technical college you can transfer up to 60 credits toward your Bachelor’s degree.

Students interested in broadening their technical skills in the technical operations of entertainment venues should consider a Certificate in Entertainment Design and Technology. This program covers basic design, stage automation, lighting, audio and CAD design.
This certificate program is designed to provide an overview of the conceptual skills demanded by the entertainment industry. The program covers basic concepts and skills in design, technology and management process that are used in entertainment venues such as stages, concerts, cruise ships, trade shows, and theme parks.

The Certificate in Web Design is suited for any professional or aspiring entrepreneur wanting to have a solid foundation in core web concepts and technologies including HTML, CSS and Javascript. The Certificate in Web Design prepares students to be able to work with internal or external web or marketing teams in support of web and web marketing initiatives. Students will learn to maintain and manage an existing web presence, and also to be able to define, design, develop and deploy a basic web presence.
The Certificate in Web Media provides a basic knowledge in the use of media-related software tools, general web concepts, search marketing and user-experience and interaction design as well as the ability to communicate a market driven perspective with regard to all media.
Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) – 63 Credits
This CACREP accredited program prepares professionals for national certification and state licensure as a clinical mental health counselor. Students take courses in individual and group counseling; theories; ethics clinical practice; as well as social and cultural competency. They also study diagnosis and treatment planning; addictions; crisis intervention and research applications. Field experience includes a 100-hour practicum and 900-hour internship in a clinical counseling setting.
The course sequence and content are guided by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and the licensing requirements of the State of Maine.
The Criminal Justice program at Husson University educates students in the many professions in the criminal justice and private sector security career fields. The program balances strengths in the traditional areas of law, budgeting, and policy-making, with careful attention to the development of skills in communication, interpersonal relations, psychology and leadership essential to effective performance in organizations.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in experiential internships with organizations related to the Criminal Justice field that they choose. The Bachelor of Science in criminal justice/MSCJA degree can be accelerated and completed in four years.
Students in this program are eligible to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Pre-Service Training program, which certifies individuals to become eligible for employment as part-time law enforcement officers in the State of Maine, while also receiving six college credits. Students in their fourth year of the program may choose to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Program to be eligible for employment as a full time law enforcement officer in the State of Maine and receive fifteen college credits as well.
Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration (MSCJA) – 36 Credits
The MSCJA program focuses on building strengths in law, budgeting, and policy-making while developing advanced skills in communication, interpersonal relations, psychology, and leadership. A real world criminal justice orientation is integrated into active classes that are open to students from a variety of academic and occupational backgrounds.
Classes are scheduled on evenings and weekends to accommodate participants' work schedules.
This dual degree program Criminal Justice and Psychology at Husson University provides students with an opportunity to achieve an educational foundation in the practical and theoretical aspects of both criminal justice and psychology. This strong background across disciplines allows students to appreciate the critically important relationship between criminality and psychological factors.
The successful law enforcement professional requires an understanding of the forensic application of psychology to the investigation of crime in order to promote successful outcomes. The qualified forensic practitioner must have a thorough grounding in criminal justice, police operations and the law to effectively assess and treat offenders and victims. To accomplish this, students in the dual degree program are exposed to coursework that prepares them for clinical and law enforcement careers.
During the fourth and fifth years, students are required to complete a practicum experience in Psychology and may choose to complete an internship in a criminal justice-related setting. Upon completion of the core psychology coursework, the student is also able to apply for certification as a Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician Community Level (MHRT-C) in the State of Maine.
The dual degree program also provides the option of attending the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Pre-Service Training program, allowing the student to earn six college credits and become eligible to work as a part-time law enforcement officer in the State of Maine. Those students in their final year of study may choose instead to attend the Academy’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Program to become eligible to work as a full-time law enforcement officer in the State of Maine, while earning fifteen college credits.
The undergraduate degree in data analytics prepares students to analyze and interpret information. This information helps organizations better serve clients, customers, and the public. Students build upon a foundation in mathematics and statistics to focus on biostatistics, computational analytics, or business analytics. Students completing the B.S. degree are prepared to enter professions using data analytics, or pursue graduate education in statistics, mathematical modeling, or more advanced analytical techniques such as data science.
Students in data analytics use tools from computer science, mathematics, and statistics to collect, organize, and analyze material in order to discover meaningful trends and patterns in information. They then interpret and communicate what they’ve learned in order to make the best possible choices for their organizations.
Educational Leadership (MSN) – 38 CREDITS
The Educational Leadership track is a 38-credit, 180-internship hour dual concentration program that provides students with the leadership skills necessary to excel in administrative positions in healthcare systems and academic settings. The curriculum delivers a comprehensive foundation in financial, operational, regulatory and clinical aspects of health system management. Students will develop mastery in pharmacology, pathophysiology and health assessment through innovative and integrated online coursework that focuses on education and leadership.
At Husson University, the Elementary Education program is designed to prepare individuals for elementary and middle school (K-6) teaching certification. Throughout the coursework and classroom experiences, students learn and apply best practices for all major academic areas, including reading, math, science, and social studies. The program is comprised of a combination of professional education and liberal arts coursework. In addition, the program integrates substantial experiential learning through clinical, practicum, and student teaching placements in a variety of classrooms. Husson has developed the Elementary Education curriculum sequence to support the requirements of both the PRAXIS CORE and PRAXIS II examinations. The program has been approved by the Maine State Department of Education and incorporates Maine’s Teaching Standards and the Maine Learning Results.

Rooted in the traditions of technical theatre, the Entertainment Production (EP) program is dedicated to providing professional “behind-the-scene” knowledge and skills that will make our graduates valuable additions to the diverse venues within the entertainment industry. Many entertainment platforms use the same design concepts, technologies and management skill sets formulated by the performing arts. Traditional production techniques normally associated with theatre are being employed in theme parks, athletic events, convention centers, cruise ships, casinos, rock concerts, shopping malls, museum exhibitions, television and even political rallies. Wherever an audience gathers to be entertained, the backstage techniques covered in the EP Program are employed.
The Biology program with a concentration in Environmental Science provides students with a strong, broad-based foundation in the natural and physical processes that affect the functioning of our planet, as well as social and political factors influencing environmental policy and management. Successful completion of the program prepares students for positions in local, state, and federal government agencies, private environmental organizations, or graduate school in scientific or policy-related environmental disciplines.
The first-year curriculum includes general education, science and math courses necessary to create a fundamental base of knowledge that will be built upon in subsequent courses.
The undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science prepares students for careers in healthcare, coaching, or graduate work. Graduates of exercise science programs are trained to assess, design, and implement exercise plans for groups and individuals who may be healthy or have diseases or injuries. Professionals in this field may evaluate risk factors, conduct assessments, develop appropriate fitness or treatment plans and motivate people toward healthy behaviors in a variety of settings.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) – 48 CREDITS
The family nurse practitioner (FNP) program is designed for those seeking to provide improved access to family healthcare. This Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited program leads to either a Master of Science in nursing degree (48 credit hours) or a post-master’s certificate. Graduates from the MSN-FNP program are eligible to sit for either the American Nurses Credentialling Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam. All courses are online or “hybrid” in nature.

The Forensic Science bachelor’s degree program strives to educate the next generation of practicing forensic scientists. The course of study gives students the opportunity to examine and evaluate physical evidence, using chemical, microscopic, instrumental and physical methods of analysis. Students work with blood and other biological fluids, hair, gunshot residue, drugs, fibers, paint, glass and impression evidence. Students also gain proficiency in preparing written scientific reports on their findings and conclusions in mock cases. Capstone coursework during the final semesters of study builds on this foundation with an emphasis on the application of natural science to criminal justice.

If you’re creative, like to work with technology, have a good visual sense, and want a career that uses your imagination, you may want to earn a degree in Graphic/Visual Design. Graphic designers convey messages visually for businesses and organizations. They use specialized software to create logos, motion design, print materials, web sites and much more. At Husson, you’ll explore topics such as animation, 3-D graphics, web design, graphic design, user experience, and virtual and augmented reality environments. The undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in health sciences prepares students for graduate study in the fields of medicine, public health, or allied health. Master of Science in Human Relations (MSHR) – 39 Credits
Students will develop skills in human development, as well as individual and group dynamics with a strong emphasis on communication skills. For the degree, students will complete 24 hours of core coursework in counseling. The remaining 15 hours are electives that may be taken from graduate programs in counseling, business, education, or criminal justice to tailor a graduate degree in human relations to the student’s area of interest. Graduates go on to work in positions in higher education, healthcare, business and banking, human resources, social services, and government.
Husson’s Integrated Technology program is designed to develop students who are technically proficient and have a solid understanding of business allowing them to effectively contribute to any organization. The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies degree program is an Individualized Program of Study (IPS) providing a broad background in the arts and sciences and specialization in two academic areas of particular interest to the student. This allows the student an opportunity to establish a broader base in general education than is ordinarily feasible, while combining in-depth study in different academic disciplines in ways not possible under the structure of traditional academic majors.
The IPS is designed by the student with help from a three-member Advisory Committee appointed by the Program Coordinator. The Advisory Committee must formally approve the IPS at least two academic semesters prior to the expected graduation date. As part of the approval process, the Advisory Committee ensures that the IPS meets all philosophical and structural requirements of the degree.
If you like doing something different everyday, enjoy talking to people, are passionate and creative, write well, and can work by yourself as well as with a team, then a Marketing Communications career may be for you. Marketing Communications is about creating and refining the images and message to the consumer and the public. Our students learn about the integrated use of marketing, public relations, advertising, graphic design and social media. The Marketing Communications program also includes courses in web design, video/film, photography, entertainment production, hospitality management and business. The options exist for students to receive the unique and diverse education they desire.

The Master of Business Administration program is designed to develop and strengthen analysis, decision-making, and implementation skills. The School of Nursing gives special attention to each student. We pride ourselves in knowing our students and helping them to achieve their educational goals. Faculty represent a full range of specialty areas in nursing and most are actively practicing as well as teaching. Our resources include modern nursing laboratories including state-of-the-art simulation equipment and academic electronic health records, supportive clinical partners within regional hospitals and community health-care agencies throughout the state.
Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) The Occupational Therapy program at Husson University prepares graduate students for this high-growth profession and to incorporate creativity, flexibility and problem solving to assist clients with developing solutions for the challenges they face.
The standard MSOT is for students with a bachelor’s degree while the advanced MSOT is for students with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. Both programs emphasize research and critical thinking. This method prepares students to practice and contribute to evidence-based practices as practitioners. The program does have some prerequisite requirements.
Occupational therapy education prepares you to work with people of all ages including those who have psychosocial, physical, emotional and developmental challenges that may interfere with living productive and meaningful lives. Occupational therapists work in many clinical and community based settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, clinics, and clients’ homes.
Husson University’s School of Occupational Therapy admits up to 40 first-year undergraduate students annually into the 5-year Bachelor of Science/Master of Science(BS/MS) track. This program consists of 2 years of pre-professional coursework followed by 3 years of professional coursework. Students receive a BS in Healthcare Administration and Public Health at the end of their fourth year of study, and the MS in Occupational Therapy at the completion of the professional program.
A number of clinical experiences are embedded in the professional phase of the program including opportunities to participate in interprofessional activities in the SimLab and the ProBono Clinic. In addition, students complete 120 hours of fieldwork consisting of three Level I clinical fieldwork placements (40 hours total each) and two, 12-week full-time Level II clinical fieldwork placements (40 hours per week).
The online Bachelor of Science in business administration program is designed to provide students with the skills they need for a variety of careers. This flexible, powerful degree has produced a worldwide network of entrepreneurs, corporate executives, organizational leaders, and consultants for more than 100 years. Students learn and practice skills in a variety of disciplines.
In addition to the general, comprehensive option, Husson Online offers a Bachelor of Science in business administration degree with a marketing management concentration or management concentration. These concentrations allow students to tailor their education to specific career fields.

The program covers everything from legal theory to practical skill applications. After students complete two years of coursework, they will be eligible for internships in agencies, offices, courts and businesses for hands-on experiential learning in the field.
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) – 148 Credits This entry-level professional degree prepares students for licensure as practicing pharmacists. Students are required to complete two years of undergraduate pre-pharmacy coursework before applying. Coursework emphasizes chemical science application, understanding drug actions, basic administrative sciences, patient care and drug therapy, and experiential components.

Our accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is organized in a 2+4-year format. This means you can earn a BS in Health Sciences and a PharmD in just six years, saving time and money. In your first two years in Health Sciences, you’ll build a foundation with emphasis on biology, chemistry and math. In the professional phase, you’ll take a wide variety of pharmaceutical, socio-behavioral and clinical practice courses during the first three years. Your final professional year is dedicated to advanced clinical practice rotations. At the successful completion of the professional phase, you’ll graduate with your bachelor and doctoral degrees, and you’ll be eligible to sit for the North American Pharmacy Licensure Exam (NAPLEX).

Physical Therapy (PT) is a healthcare profession that works to optimize a person’s function and movement. Physical therapists use examination, diagnosis and treatment to correct movement dysfunction; reduce pain resulting from injury, disease or disability; and prevent further movement dysfunction.
Husson offers an accredited Doctorate of Physical Therapy program (DPT) organized in a “3+3” year format. Students entering directly from high school complete three years of pre-professional courses, then progress to the three-year professional phase of the program. Students choosing to enter as a freshman into year one of the program will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science degree at the completion of the fourth-year course requirements.
During the first three years, the pre-professional phase courses in the arts and sciences fulfill Husson’s general education requirement and prepare the students for the three-year professional phase of the program.
During the three-year professional phase of the program, students take a wide variety of applied science and clinical practice courses. Students enrolled in the professional phase will be required to complete three clinical affiliations, some scheduled over the summer months. When all professional phase requirements are met, students receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).
Master of Business Administration (MBA) – 31 Credits
The dual graduate degree DPT/MBA program prepares students for careers as licensed physical therapists with the added expertise in pursing private practice ownership, and competitive management/administrative positions.
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MSN) – 50 CREDITS
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track is a 50-credit, 540 internship-hour degree program that prepares students to deliver high-quality mental health care to patients from pediatric to geriatric age. Courses are delivered online, and students are required to engage in clinical experiences related to this specialty area. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC Certification Examination.
At Husson, students who choose to major in psychology may select an academic path that prepares them for entry-level employment in the growing mental health services field (“industry” sounds cold and mechanical) or for graduate study.
Working with their advisors, students may select courses to meet qualifications for the MHRT/C (Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Certification) in addition to earning a B.S. in Psychology. The MHRT/C is a state-granted credential required for most entry-level mental health positions in Maine.
Alternatively, students may earn a more traditional psychology degree tailored to their own interests that prepares them for graduate study in one of many sub-fields of psychology (e.g., clinical or counseling psychology, forensic psychology, sport psychology, developmental psychology, or experimental psychology).
ROTC is a four year program of college courses that are taken in addition to a student’s traditional workload. These classes develop a cadet’s leadership skills, values, and life skills to prepare them for success as Army officers or whatever path they take in life. The confidence and strength developed as a result of this training is a priceless commodity in today’s workplace, military, and community. Students can enroll in Army ROTC courses just as they would any other course, as long as they meet the below requirements.
Master of Science in School Counseling (MSSC) – 60 credits
Husson University's school counseling program prepares students for certification as a professional school counselor in K-12 school settings. Students are prepared to work with children individually, in groups, and in classrooms within academic, career, college-ready, and social/emotional situations. A 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship further prepares professionals for counseling, leadership and consulting, along with school counseling program development and evaluation in schools. The M.S. in School Counseling program is CACREP accredited.
Husson’s Secondary Education program is designed to prepare individuals for teaching in middle and high school settings, in either public or private sectors. The program integrates substantial experiential learning through clinical, practicum, and student teaching placements in a variety of classrooms. Successful secondary education teachers possess strong content expertise, knowledge of various teaching methods, and the ability to meaningfully respond to the developmental needs of adolescents. Husson has developed the curriculum sequence to support the requirements of both the PRAXIS CORE and PRAXIS II examinations. The program has been approved by the Maine State Department of Education and incorporates Maine’s Teaching Standards and the Maine Learning Results. Husson University prides itself on its high professional placement rate. While beginning teacher salaries vary nationally, career opportunities are becoming more plentiful as an increased demand for educators is projected over the next decade.
The Sport Management program effectively blends these two distinct fields of study – sport and business administration – in an effort to prepare students for careers in this field.
The sport management degree emphasizes experiential learning through practical assignments and students are required to complete at least six credit hours of internship experience with a sport organization. Additionally, through collaboration with the American Council of Exercise, students are able to complete the certified personal trainer exam preparatory class based on the American Council of Exercise’s certified personal trainer exam certification.
Students seeking to earn their Master in Business Administration can do so in conjunction with their Bachelor in Science in sport management degree in 5 years.
In our Sports Journalism program, you’ll learn how to work as a journalist with a special interest, knowledge and skills in sports. Our students learn how to find and work with sports information. They also learn how to report, write, shoot and edit sports news for print, audio, video and on-air broadcasts. The Web, newspapers, magazines, radio and television all play a role in a graduate’s education. You’ll gain hands-on experience reporting sports news and doing play-by-play, interviews and color commentary for our radio station, WHSN 89.3 FM, for our television mobile-production unit and for our TV news and sports programming. And you can be a sports writer for our student-run, online newspaper The Spectator.
Our focus is to prepare our Sports Journalism students to become “backpack” journalists. They learn not only the writing part of the job but also the photography and video skills needed to be successful in this evolving field.
If your dream is to make films, shoot commercials, plan a documentary or direct a live television show, this program is for you. With courses in lighting, editing, directing, audio and videography, the New England School of Communications (NESCom) video/film production program prepares students to step into the workforce with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment. With hundreds of years of collective industry experience, our faculty work to help you develop expertise and creativity as you master the professional production, knowledge and skills employers demand. As part of their studies, students participate in live news and sports television broadcasts, film productions and group projects. Unlike other programs, NESCom video/film production students begin working with equipment in their first year.
