The Husson Science Research Institute was organized in late 1998 to provide an academic base and a catalyst for innovative and collaborative health-related and biological research within the State of Maine. Drawing upon the academic strengths of Husson College, especially in Science and the health sciences, HSRI serves as coordinating mechanism between Husson-based researchers, the clinical resources of Eastern Maine Healthcare, The Thomas M. Teague Biotechnology Center of Maine, the Northeast Biotechnology Corridor, and faculty members and researchers from other centers of discovery in the biomedical sciences and health fields. The Husson College Research Institute was organized in late 1998 to provide an academic base and a catalyst for innovative and collaborative health-related research within the State of Maine.
Drawing upon the academic strengths of Husson College, especially in the science and humanities and health sciences, the Institute serves as a coordinating mechanism between Institute researchers, the clinical resources of Maine, New England, Québec, and Atlantic Canada. The Institute provides a natural complement to the investigational interests of Husson faculty in molecular studies, genetics, toxicity, human performance research, therapeutics, and applied research aimed at bettering the human condition. HSRI was a founding member of, and maintains an active working relationship with, the Thomas M. Teague Biotechnology Center of Maine in Fairfield. Active HSRI Research Projects: - Mitogenic Activity of Blueberry Extracts
- The Role of Wood Decay in Forest Nutrient Cycling
- Mitogenic Activity of Wood Extractives and Fungal Metabolites
- Supplemental Creatine Effects on Blood Chemistry
- Human Kidney Stone Research
- Marine Aerosol and Human Health
Husson faculty with related investigational interests in the sciences include: Jon Connolly, Ph.D. Life Sciences James Kenny Ph.D. Political Science Ben Sidaway, Ph.D. Physical Therapy Sondra Siegel, Ph.D. Physical Therapy James Parker, Ph.D. Math/Physics Kathy Wall, Ph.D. Anatomy and Physiology
The Research Institute also supports Husson's graduate-level programs in Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy. Additionally, it strengthens our bachelor-level programs in Nursing, Life Sciences, and Life Science Teacher Education.
