Campus Sustainability Priorities

President Clark, with direct input from the entire campus community, has announced the following sustainability priorities for 2021:

  1. Biodiversity and Landscape

Cultivating a campus that is welcoming and healthy for the entire biotic community demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship, while also providing additional learning opportunities.  We seek to better understand our ecological role and the obligations that role incurs, and are taking this opportunity to revisit what additional actions we can/should be taking on campus, particularly with regard to human-landscape interactions.

  1. Food Insecurity

It is unfair and unrealistic for anyone to focus their attention on school, work, or environmental issues when they are dealing with any level of food insecurity.  Acknowledging that food insecurity exists throughout Maine and on our campus, we are re-evaluating our processes for identifying and mitigating food insecurity within the campus community.  If you or someone you know is currently experiencing food insecurity, please contact Associate Dean of Student Life Troy Morehouse (morehouset@husson.edu) if you are a student or Chief Human Resources Officer Janet Kelle (kellej@husson.edu) if you are a faculty or staff member.

  1. Institutional Commitment to Sustainability

Besides continuing to support our students, faculty, and staff in their pursuit of living and working in a culture that values sustainability, we will be re-evaluating what we as an institution can do to best foster this culture.
