What To Do When Not Feeling Well

Coughing?  Stuffy nose? Fatigue?  Fever?  Sore Throat?  Sometimes it can be difficult to tell the difference between flu, cold and COVID-19 symptoms, but the bottom line is that these symptoms can leave a student not feeling well, making it challenging to focus on academics.  

These symptoms are common to upper respiratory illnesses and are regularly seen in populations in which there is close, frequent contact like there is on college campuses’.  Clusters of symptoms can affect individual students differently and come with a wide range of risk levels.  COVID-19 is an upper respiratory illness and requires the same general precautions as other upper respiratory illnesses.  

Upper respiratory illness do not require isolation; following general guidelines that minimize the unintended spread is one approach taken at Husson to keep the campus community healthy:

  • Wear a mask when in the presence of others when an active cough is present;  
  • Use hand sanitizer and/or wash hands with soap and water frequently
  • If a fever is present, remaining at home until 24 hours after fever is gone without the use of fever suppressing medications (i.e. Tylenol, Advil, Ibuprofen, etc.)
  • Cover mouth and nose with elbow when sneezing or coughing
  • Avoid shaking hands or sharing items with others 

Students can call the Wellness Center anytime to ask questions or to schedule an in-person appointment when not feeling well.
