Campus Update — October 27, 2023

Published on: October 27, 2023

Alfond Hall is shown at dusk.

Dear Husson Family:

We have been closely monitoring the situation with the Lewiston shootings and are in close contact with state and local law enforcement. While the suspect remains at large, there are no known threats to our campus or area. As such, we will continue to operate as normal in Bangor.

Your safety, security and continued success is our top priority. We will again have an increased security presence on campus and encourage students, faculty and staff to take advantage of resources available to them. We also appreciate our Husson faculty for being flexible with students who have safety concerns.

Also, although coming together is helpful for many, it’s essential that you make the right choices for your comfort and well-being in the coming days. Only you know what’s best for you.

These resources continue to be available today:

  • Open counseling drop-in hours for students at the Wellness Center will be available at 10 am and 2 pm today.
  • For faculty and staff, we also want to remind you of our Emergency Assistance Program (EAP) that can be accessed by calling 1-800-854-1446 or online at unum.com/lifebalance.
  • You can also contact 988, a crisis lifeline.

Here’s who to contact with concerns:

  • Safety & Security: (207) 941-7911
  • Student Life: (207) 941-7107

Campus events including the Material Girls performance at The Gracie Theatre tonight and Friends and Family Weekend events are moving ahead at this time. However, this is a fluid situation that could change. If something of concern arises, we will let you know immediately using university communications including emails, website posts and our Rave emergency alert system.

Our hearts remain with our neighbors in Lewiston and beyond who are dealing with a horrific tragedy and with all of you who are grappling with what this means for your personal security, our state and our nation. In this time of heightened awareness, we are grateful to all of you for taking care of each other and practicing good personal responsibility. We, as the Husson community, are stronger together.
