Scholarships

Merit Scholarships

The Admissions Office is pleased to announce the following merit scholarships available for undergraduate students entering in the Fall of 2019. There are no additional scholarship forms required and recipients will be determined at the time of acceptance. Admissions applications must be completed by January 1, 2019 in order to be considered. Recipients must be enrolled full-time day students and maintain continuous enrollment to keep the scholarship. Applicants receive highest-level scholarship only. Husson University is NCAA Division III and athletic awards are not available.

 

Trustee's Scholar Award 
$20,000

Factors for consideration: A minimum SAT score of 1250 or 26 on the ACT, a minimum "A" average. This scholarship is valued at $5,000 per year. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep this scholarship.


President's Academic Scholarship 
$16,000

Factors for consideration: A minimum SAT score of 1150 or 23 on the ACT composite and a minimum "A" average. This scholarship is valued at $4,000 per year. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep this scholarship.


Provost's Leadership Scholarship 
$12,000

Factors for consideration: A minimum SAT score of 1050 or 20 on the ACT composite and a minimum "B" average. This scholarship is valued at $3,000 per year. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to keep this scholarship. 


Dean's Leadership Scholarship 
$8,000

Factors for consideration: A minimum SAT score of 950 or 18 on the ACT composite, and a minimum "B" average, and a history of strong academic performance. This scholarship is valued at $2,000 per year. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to keep this scholarship. 

 

Scholarships with an Admissions Application Deadline of April 1, 2019 or Open-Ended (applications must be complete to be considered):


Legacy Scholarship 
$4,000

Student must have had a parent, grandparent, or great grandparent who graduated from Husson to receive this scholarship. This scholarship is valued at $1,000 per year. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to keep this scholarship.


Transfer Scholarship 
$3,000 ($1,500/per semester) 3.5 GPA
$2,000 ($1,000/per semester) 3.0 GPA
$1,000 ($500/per semester) 2.5 GPA

Qualifying incoming transfer students will receive one of the above listed scholarships. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 to keep the $1,000 scholarship and a minimum GPA of 3.0 to keep the $2,000 or $3,000 scholarships, as well as carry a minimum of 12 credit hours. This scholarship is applicable to day-division enrollment in undergraduate programs of study and is stackable with the Maine Community College and PTK Scholarships. 


Maine Community College Award
$2,000

Your Associate's Degree from a Maine Community College now guarantees you $2,000 per year. To qualify, students must marticulate immediately following completion of their two-year college degree. 


Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship 
$1,500

Husson is proud to offer an additional $1,500 to students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa at their community college and carry a 3.0 GPA or higher from all institutions previously attended. To be eligible, students must marticulate immediately following completion of their two-year college degree. 


President's Global Scholarship 
$4,000 - $40,000

International Scholarship with a minimum of $1,000-$10,000 per year, based on merit. The student must provide proof of financial responsibility and be eligible for an F-1 student visa for consideration. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to keep this scholarship. 


Pine Tree Scholarship
$12,000

This is an out-of-state recognition scholarship based on one's SAT scores and GPA. This scholarship is valued at $3,000 per year and is awarded to first-year entering students only. Completed admissions applications must be received no later than April 1, 2018.

 

Husson Beacon Scholarship (New for Fall 2019)
$4,000

The Husson Beacon Scholarship from Husson University is $4,000. This award is for $1,000 a year and will be disbursed at $500.00 per semester (Fall/Spring). Students must reside in the State of Maine, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and be a full-time first-year, day-division student. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.


For continuing students


The Scholar Incentive Award
Awarded based on academic performance. Full time undergraduate students that have completed 30 credits at Husson will be considered for this academic scholarship. Those that have attained a semester grade point average of 3.4 or better will receive a $300 scholarship and those who have attained a 3.6 or better will receive a $400 scholarship to be applied the following semester. The student must be enrolled as a full time student (12 or more credits) in the semester the scholarship is to be applied. GPA's will be reviewed and awards will be received during the Fall & Spring semesters only. Payment of this award is applied toward tuition in the subsequent regular semester of enrollment.

Need-based Scholarships and Grants

U&Husson Scholarship
Awarded based on calculated financial need. Must be enrolled as a full-time day student to be considered.


Husson Eagle Grant
Awarded based on calculated financial need. Must be enrolled as a full-time day student to be considered.


On-campus Residential Grant
Awarded to students living in on-campus housing and who have financial need. Must be enrolled as a full-time day student to be considered.

Endowed & Restricted Scholarships

The following scholarships are automatically awarded as part of aid package, if student is deemed eligible.

Class of 1964
An award is made annually to an upperclass (third year or above) Business major.

Class of 1965
Awarded annually to a full-time student with demonstrated financial need.

George I. Alden Trust Scholarship
This trust, headquartered in Massachusetts, provides annual assistance to needy undergraduate students.

Harold Alfond Scholarship
Priority given to children of former Dexter Shoe employees, 9/11 victims, then Central Maine needy families.

Alumni Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to eligible sophomores by the Husson University Alumni Board.

The Bakers of Orrington Scholarship
This is an endowed scholarship used to support students with demonstrated financial need from the towns of Orrington and Holden, Maine and from Hancock and Washington counties.

City of Bangor Scholarship
Awarded to a Bangor resident with demonstrated financial need.

Thomas and Joyce Barrows Scholarship
Awarded to first year student from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, Maine.

Lin and Jill Bell Scholarship
A deserving upperclass full-time student who are pursuing degrees in Education or Business from the state of Maine.

Col. Hazel E Benn Scholarship
Awarded to financially deserving students from Aroostook County.

Leland R. Bennett Memorial Scholarship
An award made annually from the fund to an incoming adult nursing student who demonstrates financial need.

Betterment Fund Scholarship
Awards made annually to deserving students, preferably from Oxford County and the Western mountains of Maine.

Margaret Louise Burckes Scholarship
Recipient selected by the Director of the Occupational Therapy program annually.

Carlisle Family Scholarship Fund
Needy full time student(s) from northern Penobscot county as well as Aroostook and Piscataquis counties.

James S and Carol A Carlisle Scholarship
First year, full time with need, in top 40% of class. Priority given to students from Avon, Phillips, Madrid; then Eustis, Kingfield, Strong, Carrabaset, Salem, Freeman, and Wyman's Plantation, Maine; then to any town in Franklin county, Maine.

Frank Carter Merit Scholarship
Full-time 1st year student who ranked in the top quarter of his or her graduating high school class.

Roger Castonguay Memorial Scholarship
A $1,000 scholarship established by Fleet Bank in the memory of Roger J. Castonguay, a Husson alumnus and former president and CEO of Fleet Bank of Maine. This scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need to a business or accounting major from northern Maine.

Sheriff Arthur W. Chandler Endowment Fund
The Sheriff Arthur W. Chandler Endowment Fund honors a man who was a six term Sheriff of Penobscot County. During this time, Sheriff Chandler was instrumental in updating law enforcement techniques within his department, bringing state-of-the-art training to his staff and outfitting his deputies with high-quality protective equipment. He was known as a firm, but fair professional and tempered his actions with humanity and justice. 

The recipient of the Sheriff Arthur W. Chandler Endowment Fund will be a full-time junior, senior, or graduate with first priority to criminal justice majors, second priority to forensic science majors, and third priority to legal studies majors. The successful candidate will have at least a 3.0 GPA in their major, and will have completed 100 hours of community involvement with the law enforcement community. They will have financial need and demonstrate a positive attitude toward a career in law enforcement. 

Clark/Waltz Family Scholarship
Awarded to a deserving Lawrence HS graduate (preference to Albion, ME resident) and to a deserving Lee Academy graduate (preference to Lee, ME resident).

Wilfred E. Cobb Memorial Scholarship
Named in honor of a former Husson administrator, this need-based scholarship is awarded annually to a student who best typifies the kind of student Bill tried to help when he was with the College.

Earl R. Constantine Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2009 by Mr. Constantine, a Maine School of Commerce alumnus, this scholarship is awarded annually to Maine students at the graduate or undergraduate level studying Business.

Moira C. Creaser Scholarship
Awarded to an Elementary Education student with financial need and good academic standing.

Brent Cross Scholarship
Awarded to an incoming 1st year student from Penobscot/Hancock county; renewable.

Woodrow W. Cross Agency Scholarship
The Director of Financial Aid grants this $500 award annually to a student with financial need from Central Maine entering Husson University as an accounting or business administration major.

Raymond L. Cunliffe Memorial Scholarship
Endowed by ongoing contributions in fond remembrance of the namesake, the scholarship is directed to provide financial assistance to deserving Maine students from Aroostook County pursuing a career in Public Accounting.

Merrill Dellaire Dollar Scholarship
Awarded to full time students with unmet need.

Irene Ferris Nursing Scholarship
Awarded by the Financial Aid Office to a deserving nursing student.

Husson Alumni & Friends
Provides scholarship support to full-time Husson students with financial need.

Arthur D. Fuller Scholarship
An award made annually based on financial need to a full-time undergraduate student from Western Maine.

Virginia S Glidden Scholarship
Awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.

Bud & Bette Grant Scholarship
Awarded to students from Penobscot, Hancock, Aroostook, Piscataquis, or Washington counties in Maine with need.

Donald Grant Scholarship
Awarded annually to a full-time Maine student with demonstrated financial need.

Florence Hillman Grant Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time student and graduate from a high school located in Penobscot, Hancock, Aroostook, Piscataquis, or Washington counties in Maine. This award shall be renewable for each year the student is enrolled full-time at Husson University.

Kathryn Ann Hainer Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student with financial need. Preference will be given to students who are single parents.

Robert N. Haskell Scholarship
In memory of Robert N. Haskell of Bangor, Maine, Governor of the State of Maine, Bank Executive, Chairman of the Board and President of Bangor Hydro Electric Company, educator, and civic leader, this scholarship is awarded by the Director of Financial Aid on the basis of financial need to a sophomore, junior, or senior who is in a business program, is in good academic standing, and who is a resident and citizen of the State of Maine.

Julian F Haynes Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time resident of Maine with demonstrated financial need.

Elizabeth Dentremont Heal Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time Nursing student in good academic standing with unmet financial need.

Healthcare Charities Scholarship
Awarded to a grad or undergrad student enrolled in a Husson healthcare education program with financial need.

William Randolph Hearst Scholarship
Awarded to a student with demonstrated need who will stay in the U.S. after graduation.

Jonathan & Sara Henry Scholarship
Awarded to an incoming undergrad w/need from Hampden, Winterport, Newburgh, or Frankfort. Preference to Education or Health Sciences.

Rick ’65 and Linda Hersey Scholarship
Awarded to a student with demonstrated need from Massachusetts.

Kenneth & Linda Hews Scholarship
Awarded to a full time student majoring in Business from rural Maine.

Paul and Judith Husson International Scholarship
Awarded to deserving international students.

Daniel & Sherry Hutchins Scholarship
Awarded to a Maine HS graduate who is majoring in Accounting student (first preference) or is studying in the College of Business.

Norma McNeill James
Awarded to a full-time student from the state of Maine with demonstrated financial need.

Key Bank Scholarship
Formerly Casco Northern Corporation Scholarship. An award made annually from the fund to a deserving Maine student.

KPMG Peat Marwick Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student from Maine who has demonstrated unmet financial need.

Edmond LeBrun Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor a former faculty member, Ed LeBrun. It is an award made annually from the fund to an entering Hampden Academy graduate with proven financial need.

Rick Leonard Scholarship
Awarded to full-time students in good academic standing with demonstrated need from the Old Town area.

Andrea Karen Lockhart Scholarship
An award is made annually to a deserving student from Massachusetts.

D. Bruce MacGregor Scholarship
Awarded to a deserving male student.

Maine Public Service Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time student with need, and Aroostook County resident, and enrolled in AS or BS.

Maine Society of CPA Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time student majoring in Accounting.

Maine Yankee Scholarship
This scholarship was established to provide a financial award made annually to a student from Maine who demonstrates financial need and to honor a major corporation.

LaJune S Means Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.

Delmont & Elizabeth Merrill Scholarship
Awarded to a Nursing student with need from Ellsworth HS with 3.0+ GPA after first semester. If none, then otherwise eligible student from Hancock or Washington Counties, in that order.

Merrill Merchants Bank
Awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.

Louise Miller Merit Scholarship
A junior with the highest GPA in the second semester that is a Business Admin or Education major

Sanford & Joanne Miller Scholarship
Awarded to Education or Business students with 2.5 GPA or higher. Renewable.

Awarded to a full-time College of Business student from Bangor area.

Mu Sigma Chi Alumni Scholarship
Awarded to an active member of Mu Sigma Chi fraternity with a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Awarded to an entering Husson student with demonstrated financial need.

Charles Sullivan Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time student in School of Business based on financial need and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Clara Lincoln Swan Scholarship
Awarded annually during the second semester, based on need, to a non-traditional female student in the field of Business.

Husson University Trustee Scholarship
Awarded to achieving students with financial need.

John & Elsie Tyler Scholarship
Awarded to a needy student from Aroostook, Hancock, Waldo, or Washington, Maine counties with at least a 2.5 GPA.

WABI – TV Scholarship
Awarded to exceptional students in video production each year by Diversified Communications, WABI TV’s parent company.

Walker-Perkins Scholarship Fund
The Walker-Perkins Scholarship Fund is distributed for tuition expense to one or more Maine students at Husson subject to the following requirements (1) the student be enrolled in a four-year program for the year in which the tuition grant is made (2) the student demonstrates the qualifications to benefit from the education which Husson provides; and (3) the student lacks financial resources to pay tuition at Husson.

Webber Oil Foundation
Awarded annually by the Director of Financial Aid to a deserving sophomore, junior, or senior student with financial need.

Peirce Webber Scholarships
Awarded annually to full-time Maine residents with ability and demonstrated financial need.

Robert E & Dorothy A White Scholarship
Awarded to a graduate of Hampden Academy (Maine); preference for non-Criminal Justice. Renewable for 4 years.

Lloyd Willey Canteen Service Scholarship
Awarded annually to a graduate of Narraguagus High School with demonstrated financial need.

Alma C. Williams Scholarship
Awarded annually to an upperclass student from the towns of Clifton, Amherst, Holden, Eddington, Aurora, Great Pond, Osborn, or Dedham, with unmet financial need.

Leon and Alma C. Williams Scholarship
An award or awards from a fund to an entering student who is (or will be) a graduate of Brewer High School or John Bapst Memorial High School, and who is a resident of Clifton, Amherst, Aurora, Plantation #33, Osborne Plantation, Eddington or Holden. The recipient must be a deserving and needy student of good citizenship.

Women’s Philanthropy Council Scholarship
Awarded to full-time undergraduate beginning sophomore year in good academic standing and with demonstrated financial need.

 

Students must apply for the following endowed/restricted scholarships during the spring semester in order to be considered for these scholarships. Selections are made by the Faculty Scholarship Committee. They are all included on one application form made available in the Spring semester.

Diana Beaudoin & Jacques Cohen Fund
For needy Maine students studying abroad.

Douglas H. & Ana M. Brown Scholarship
One-half of the awards made annually from the funds shall be to outstanding students majoring in a business field and one-half to outstanding students majoring in nursing.

Frank M. Carter Memorial Scholarship
Established by friends and colleagues in the memory of Frank M. Carter, this scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior accounting major from Maine who demonstrates both financial need and academic excellence.

Fred R. Dingley Scholarship
Awarded to a student from Lee, Winn, Springfield, Webster Plantation, Prentiss Plantation, Topsfield, Macwahoc, Reed Plantation, Drew Plantation, and the unorganized territories of Kingman and Brookton.

William H. Donahue Scholarship
Awarded annually to an upper-class student in the Department of Accounting.

Russell C. & Veronica D. Eustice Scholarship
Awarded to an upperclass student majoring in Business Administration and who demonstrates both financial need and the ability to succeed in a business program.

Fleet Bank Scholarship
Awarded to a deserving Husson student.

Allen Friedman Scholarship
Awarded to a Radio student in memory of former staff member and NESCom student.

James & Mildred Judy Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior accounting major and nursing major (2 awards).

Elizabeth S. Largay Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a sophomore nursing major from rural Maine with a minimum GPA of 2.8.

Gale Longo Scholarship Fund
Awarded to a full-time sophomore or higher Maine resident with demonstrated financial need. May not thrive in the traditional classroom and therefore, may not have a high GPA. Renewable.

Maine Association of Broadcasters
Yearly allocation split between: Maine students with high GPA who are excellent examples of potential broadcasters; and underrepresented Maine students with high GPA who are excellent examples of potential broadcasters.

Tom & Mary Martz Endowed Scholarship
International student with demonstrated financial need; or student who is in the field of cultural studies or has studied visual art, art history, or an art related subject such as literature and dance; or study abroad.

Scott McDowell Memorial Scholarship
Established by friends, relatives, and colleagues in his memory, this scholarship is awarded to a third year student from Maine majoring in Business Administration who demonstrates financial need and the ability to succeed in a business program.

William P. Newman Scholarship
Awarded to an upper class male Business major with demonstrated proficiency and sportsmanship.

Northern New England Broadcasters Scholarship
Awarded to broadcasting students from New England.

Thomas E Thornton Jr Scholarship
Awarded to needy students studying in the College of Business. Renewable with 2.0 or better.

Vermont Association of Broadcasters
Awarded to students majoring in television or radio broadcasting from New England, with preference to students from Vermont
