Resources for Academic Program Review
Husson University conducts external reviews of non-specialized academic programs at the conclusion of each five-year review cycle to validate findings from the program’s self-study, support continuous improvement, and ensure alignment with the University’s mission, strategic priorities, and NECHE 2023 Standards.
This policy is intentionally integrated with:

The external review occurs only after completion of the five-year self-study.
External Review Process:
Phase 1 Five-Year Self-Study Completion
Program compiles five years of Annual Review forms into the self-study addressing:
- Mission & strategic alignment
- Enrollment & graduates (5-year trends) Faculty FTE, credentials, PD, governance
- Curriculum mapping, experiential learning, assessment results, changes
- Post-program outcomes & mission-appropriate success indicators
- Planning, forecasting, goals, resource needs
- Integrity, public disclosure, compliance, evidence of improvement
This self-study also meets the MultiYear Checklist requirements for enrollment, faculty, curriculum, assessment, post-program outcomes, planning, synthesis, and resources
Phase 2 External Reviewer Selection & Orientation
Provost selects independent reviewer(s) with disciplinary and accreditation expertise.
Reviewer receives:
- Five-Year Self-Study
- Supporting Annual Reviews & artifacts
- Institutional mission, strategic plan, enrollment context
- Formal reviewer charge
Phase 3 External Review Activities
Reviewer evaluates and confirms the self-study’s findings related to:

Program + Dean produce formal Action Plan addressing recommendations and integrating them into:
- Next Annual Program Review
- Assessment cycle
- Budget & resource planning
- Strategic initiatives
Progress tracked annually.
- Action planning and documentation
