Employee Benefits

Paid Time Off: (Full-Time & Part-Time Staff/Faculty)
Husson University is committed to providing employees the opportunity to take paid time off from their job responsibilities.  In an effort to provide employees with increased flexibility to meet their needs, the University offers an inclusive paid time off policy.

This policy meets or exceeds the requirements of the Maine Earned Employee Leave Law which will be effective on January 1, 2021.  The law provides that any employer with more than 10 employees (whether part-time or full-time), must allow employees to begin accruing paid leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.

How PTO will accrue:
Non-exempt staff will accrue PTO for each hour worked, including holiday, PTO, overtime, bereavement, and sick leave reserve time.

Exempt staff and full-time Faculty will accrue a set number of PTO hours per pay period based upon their employment classification.  All accruals will take place over a 12 month period.

Part-time faculty, adjuncts, part-time and per diem staff will accrue 1 hour of PTO for every 40 hours worked up to a maximum of 40 hours.

Holidays (Full-Time Staff/Faculty):
Husson University observes approximately 11 paid holidays per year: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day (taken the 1st day of spring break), Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Labor Day (some years replaced with a floating holiday), Indigenous Peoples Day, Thanksgiving (2 days), and Christmas. The holiday schedule is subject to change each year.

Group Health and Dental Insurance and FSA (Full-Time Staff/Faculty):
Husson University provides a choice of 3 health insurance plans through Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare and provides a designated amount toward the cost. A voluntary group dental plan is available and paid for by the employee. Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts are also available. These benefits, if elected, take effect on the first of the month following the employee's date of hire.

Life Insurance/AD&D (Full-Time Staff/Faculty):
Husson University provides Basic Life/AD&D insurance coverage equal to two times the employee's annual gross salary to a maximum benefit of $500,000. There is no charge to the employee for this plan and coverage is effective on the first of the month following the employee’s date of hire. Additional Voluntary life insurance is available for purchase by the employee for themselves and their family members.

Disability Insurance (Full-Time Staff/Faculty):
Short Term and Long Term Disability insurances are provided for full-time employees at no cost to the employees and coverage is effective on the first of the month following the employee’s date of hire.

Voluntary Retirement Program (Full-Time & Part-Time Staff/Faculty):
Husson University provides a 403(b) defined contribution plan with AIG Retirement Services. Eligible employees may establish their 403(b) account(s) at any point during their employment with Husson; however, Husson University will begin employer contributions only after one continuous year of service and a minimum of 1,000 hours worked. Once the employee has established an account and has met the eligibility requirements, Husson University will contribute an amount equal to 2% of the employee's gross compensation whether or not the employee contributes; this amount is increased by 4% if the employee contributes 3% or more. The maximum employer contribution is 6%.

Tuition Exemption (Full-Time and Part-Time Staff/Faculty):
After the introductory period of 90 days of employment, employees are eligible for a generous tuition waiver benefit for themselves. An additional tuition waiver benefit is available for spouses and eligible dependents of full-time employees.

Tuition Exchange Program (Full-Time Staff/Faculty):
Husson University participates in the Council of Independent Colleges Tuition Exchange Program (CIC-TEP). After the introductory period of 90 days of employment, full-time employees, their spouses, and their eligible dependents can apply for undergraduate tuition waivers from 440 participating institutions.

Husson University complies with Federal and State mandated laws and taxes and is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
