Husson University will host acclaimed singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant on Saturday, October 10 at the Gracie Theatre for its signature performance of the season, bringing one of the most distinctive and celebrated voices in American music to Bangor. The special acoustic performance will include Erik Della Penna.

A multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter and producer, Merchant has captivated audiences for decades with her unmistakable voice, thoughtful songwriting and compelling live performances. Her music, which blends elements of folk, rock and world music, has established her as a pioneering figure in alternative music.

“We are so pleased to bring this caliber of artist to the Gracie Theatre and the Greater Bangor community as our signature performance of the season,” said Husson University President Lynne Coy-Ogan. “Natalie Merchant is an extraordinary artist whose career has been defined by creativity, authenticity and a remarkable ability to connect with audiences. Hosting an artist of her stature at Husson is an exciting opportunity for our University and our region.”

Merchant rose to prominence as the lead singer and primary lyricist of 10,000 Maniacs before launching a highly successful solo career. Her acclaimed albums include Tigerlily, Ophelia and, most recently, Keep Your Courage, released in 2023 on Nonesuch Records. The album explores love and human connection in its many forms and was widely praised as another powerful chapter in Merchant’s celebrated career.

For this special performance, Merchant will be joined by her longtime guitarist Erik Della Penna. Their intimate duo performances, developed through decades of musical collaboration, have become particularly cherished by audiences around the world.

The Gracie Theatre, located on the Husson University campus in Bangor, provides an intimate setting that allows audiences to experience nationally and internationally recognized artists in a uniquely personal environment. The Natalie Merchant performance will serve as a centerpiece of the Gracie’s season and reflects Husson’s commitment to expanding the theatre’s role as a cultural destination for the University and the Greater Bangor community.
