Husson Hospitality and Tourism students, Megan Buddemeyer ‘26, Sophie Andersen ‘25, and Sport Management student Connor LaMontagne ‘25, were recognized by the City of Brewer on Oct. 14 at their regular board meeting for volunteer work with the Brewer Public Library.

Andersen and Buddemeyer gathered and analyzed community input to support the Library Commission’s survey and planning efforts. LaMontagne was recognized in absentia for his work researching the library’s history and services to develop a marketing plan.

The Library Commission hopes to use the results of the feasibility study to improve programming, resources, and community building opportunities, including a potential new library building where the commission hopes to display a number of historical artifacts inherited after the closure of The Brewer Historical Society’s Clewley Museum in 2024.

Andersen and Buddemeyer completed the work as part of a project for their Sustainable Tourism class in the Spring 2025 semester. The class curriculum was focused on comparing local action to the United Nations’ 17 goals for sustainable development. Their work with the library commission’s initiative helped to cultivate four of those 17 goals: Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.
