Husson University’s student-operated radio station WHSN will be sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 10:30am to 4pm in the Furman Student Center

Held semiannually, WHSN’s blood drives have resulted in 874 units of blood donations. Donations at the Red Cross blood drive are used to support patients in need around the country.

Blood donations can be used for lifesaving care for patients undergoing treatments for cancer, sickle cell disease, severe burns and bodily trauma, according to the American Red Cross.

“The Red Cross does a great job of letting you track your donation so you can actually see where it goes,” said Mark Nason, WHSN’s station manager. “As soon as you donate, they start sending you stories about the kinds of people that this helps.”

The Husson blood drive is one way in which the university encourages community involvement. Nason said that 27% of donors at these drives have been first-time donors.

“It’s the kind of thing that’s rewarding in your heart,” said Nason. “The lasting effects trickle through for the weeks and months following a donation”

Appointments to donate blood can be scheduled directly through the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS, or by following this link and scheduling an appointment online.
