The 24th Annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is coming to Husson University on Saturday, April 6 to raise funds for the School of Physical Therapy’s SOARing Eagles Healthcare Clinic.

The event, held at Newman Gymnasium, begins at 9am on April 6. It’s free and open to the public and also includes children’s activities, prizes between games, concessions and raffles. It’s all being organized by Husson’s Organization of Physical Therapy Students.

“It’s a great way for students, faculties and families to come together for a good cause. This year the proceeds will go to Husson’s pro-bono PT clinic, which helps underinsured and uninsured residents get the care they need,” said Kyle Artkop, president of the Organization of Physical Therapy Students.

The SOARing Eagles Healthcare Clinic is run by Husson University physical therapy students.

“This tournament allows us to have fun as a department and raise money for a great cause. It also gives our students a greater understanding of what individuals with mobility issues face on a daily basis. Our faculty and students look forward to it all year,” said Dr. Michelle Slike, an assistant professor in the School of Physical Therapy.

More than $1,000 in raffle prizes have been donated for the event from over 30 sponsors including sporting event tickets, signed sports memorabilia, tickets to Waterfront Concerts events and local restaurant gift certificates. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and winners must be present to claim their prizes. For those who are unable to attend the event but would like to donate to the SOARing Eagle Healthcare Clinic, donations can be made online at

Husson University’s Organization of Physical Therapy Students promotes academic excellence, public service, and networking through a series of meeting and fundraising events.
