A new mixed media exhibit has been installed in Husson University’s Robert E. White Gallery. “Serial Explorations,” is inspired by the natural world and features mixed media drawings.

Artist Janelle Delicata is a current instructor in fine arts at Husson University. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute, College of Art and a Master of Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School For American Craft.

“I am inspired by the natural world, interpreting and filtering influences and forms from land, water, sky and elemental forces to create a personal iconography and language. I strive for honesty to materials in all media. Things are what they are yet there are also layers of meaning and intent that contribute to the talismanic quality of my work,” Delicata said.

Delicata works in many media, both two and three dimensional. Her mixed media drawings often incorporate stones, twigs, grasses, fiber and other materials along with pencil, paint and charcoal. She has been creating since childhood. One of her earliest memories is being made to scrub her drawing off a window sill. She had been channeling her inner Michaelangelo but couldn’t reach the ceiling.

“We’re thrilled to have this new exhibit on display in the Robert E. White Gallery, showcasing the creativity and boundary-pushing form of this notable Maine artist,” said Professor Kathi Smith, who oversees the gallery.

The exhibit, on display through Aug. 19, will include two opportunities to hear from the artist. On Feb. 29 from 5-6 pm, a discussion, virtual showcase and Q&A session will be held on Zoom. An artists reception and art making is also planned for March 14 from 3-5 pm in the Husson Campus Center and Robert E. Lee Gallery.
