Alumni Appreciation Week at Husson University to Feature Axe Throwing, Trivia Contests and Bowling

BANGOR, MAINE – From January 31 – February 4, Husson University will be hosting a series of online, off-campus and on-campus events designed to help alumni know how much they’re valued and appreciated.

“Husson is built on a foundation of excellence constructed by our alumni,” said Christine Mihan, the University’s director of alumni relations. “Their support has made Husson University one of Maine’s leading educators. This week is dedicated to thanking the many alumni who’ve helped create new learning opportunities for students and assisted the next generation of successful professionals to reach their career goals.”

Man throwing an axe at a wooden targetThe week kicks off with an in-person event at Smoke and Steel in Bangor on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 6 – 8 p.m. Sponsored by Husson’s Bangor Alumni Board, the event will provide attendees with the opportunity to network with fellow alumni and meet the new Dean of the College of Health and Pharmacy James D. Nash, PharmD, MPH, BCPS. Alumni at the event will also be able to enjoy a complimentary beverage and learn how to throw axes in one of the eatery’s 10 axe throwing lanes. Smoke and Steel coaches will be on hand to teach alumni everything they need to know about safely throwing axes. The restaurant is located at 471 Stillwater in Bangor.

The fun continues on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 1 – 3 p.m. when the Student Alumni Association hosts an on-campus event where current students can learn what it means to be an alumna/alumnus of Husson University and test their trivia skills. Anyone interested in participating is asked to gather in the upper portion of the G. Peirce Webber Campus Center in Peabody Hall at 1 p.m.

Two days later, on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., the University’s Southern Maine Alumni Board will conclude the week with an in-person event at the Broadway Sea Dog in South Portland. Alumni will have the opportunity to meet and hear from Phillip A.

Taylor, III, PhD, MBA, the new dean of Husson’s College of Science and Humanities. James D. Nash, PharmD, MPH, BCPS, the new dean of the College of Health and Pharmacy will also be present. Attendees will be able to enjoy a complimentary beverage and snacks. The Broadway Sea Dog has bowling lanes for anyone interested in kegling. This is a unique opportunity for alumni to enjoy a game of 10-pins as they connect with friends and classmates. The Broadway Sea Dog is located at 725 Broadway in South Portland.

Alumni interested in an opportunity to support the next generation of students will appreciate this online opportunity. Husson University’s Career Services and Alumni Relations are working to connect alumni with students as part of a new mentoring network. This network provides alumni with a chance to share their experiences and expertise with our current students in order to help prepare them for the entering the workforce. Alumni interested in editing resumes, conducting practice interviews, networking, and offering internships are all welcome to join. Those who sign up can select the areas where they want to help. Alumni can also use the hashtag #hussonalumni to interact with University Alumni Relations throughout the week on social media.

Alumni Relations has also created a series of fun stickers and GIFs that alumni can use to show their Husson Pride. They can be found on Husson’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
