Husson University Students to Hold Meet the Candidates Event

BANGOR, MAINE – October 20, 2015 – Students who are members of Husson University’s Republican Club are hosting a “Meet the Candidates” event in the Gracie Theatre on October 22 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. “This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the candidates on a variety of issues,” said Seth Reed, president of the Husson University Republican Club. “Our club is excited to be hosting this forum and hearing more details about how these candidates can help make Maine a better place to live.” Participating speakers at the “Meet the Candidates” event will include Ashley Ryan, Dustin White, and A.J. Edgecomb. More about the presenters: Ashley Ryan was elected as the Republican national committee member from Maine in May 2012. She is a retail sales consultant with AT&T and a third-generation Republican. Her grandmother, Nancy Ryan, was a long-time activist with the Maine GOP. Her father, Lewis Ryan, served in the Maine Army Reserves and fought for our country in Operation Desert Storm. Dustin White is serving his first term in the Maine House of Representatives. He is the representative from District 146 in Aroostook County, which covers the towns of Blaine, Castle Hill, Chapman, Mapleton, Mars Hill, Perham, Wade, Washburn, Westfield and Woodland. He has been appointed to serve on the Environment and Natural Resources Committee in the 127th Legislature. A resident of Washburn, Representative White works as a behavioral health professional and is currently studying pre-law at Husson University in Bangor. In his spare time he enjoys harness racing, playing golf and hockey. Anthony “A.J.” Edgecomb, 21, entered the Maine House of Representatives as the youngest member of 127th Maine Legislature. Representative Edgecomb represents District 148. This district includes the towns of Caswell, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Hamlin, Limestone, Presque Isle (part), Stockholm and Cyr Plantation, plus the unorganized territory of Connor Township. He has been appointed to serve on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee in the 127th Legislature. Edgecomb is currently attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle where he’s majoring in physical education and is the president of the school’s disc sports club. In his spare time, you will find him out on the golf course or playing ultimate Frisbee. This event is part of the Maine Republican Party’s #GEN207 youth initiative. During this forum, Seth Reed and other members of #GEN207 will be asking the candidates questions about their ideology and current events. There are young people that hold office either in the Maine Congress or as part of a national committee. This event is designed to help inform the public about the young members within the Maine democratic process. There is no registration required for this event.
