Platinum Single Recording Artist Howie Day to Perform at Husson University’s Gracie Theatre

Published on: October 24, 2014

BANGOR, MAINE - For the first time in 10 years, Brewer native and hit singer/songwriter Howie Day will appear in concert here in Bangor, near his hometown. After sales of over a million albums and two “Top 10” hits, Day is back on the road showcasing old favorites, including his platinum single “Collide” and his gold single “She Says.” New material from his upcoming studio release will also be featured.

Day began playing piano at age five and the guitar at age 12. By the time he reached 15, he was writing his own songs and performing across New England. Shortly after graduating from Brewer High School, Day became a fixture at University of Maine coffeehouses.

“Having Howie Day perform at the Gracie is a highlight,” says Jeri Misler, managing director of the Gracie Theatre. “His fans, friends and family will be here to enjoy his newest songs, firsthand.”

Howie Day’s emotionally resonant lyrics and inventive melodies have earned him both critical praise and a legion of devoted fans. He is known for his energetic, heartfelt shows, where he connects with audiences through the strength of his songwriting and his quirky sense of humor. Day’s warm tenor voice “soars into fluttering, high registers, but also grates with real, pleading grit,” as one critic put it.

Day wrote, financed and released his first album, Australia. This initial effort was named the “Best Debut Album” at the 2001 Boston Music Awards. The Boston Globe described Day as “gorgeously seasoned, far beyond his years” with “a brave, beautiful singing voice.”

During his relentless touring schedule, Day began experimenting with effects pedals and loop-sampling techniques as he performed, layering live percussion with vocal harmonies and
guitar parts to become a veritable one-man band. During his upcoming concert, Day will be using his looping techniques as he shares the stage with a keyboard player.
The concert will take place at the Gracie Theatre, on the Bangor campus of Husson University, on Friday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored, in part, by Bangor Savings Bank with show sponsorship by WBRC Architects and Engineers, this performance marks the second show in the Gracie Theatre’s 2014 – 2015 season. Tickets for the concert are $23 to $32 at GracieTheatre.com, Ticketmaster.com, Facebook, or by calling 941-7888. Ticketing fees may apply.

Completed in October of 2009, the Gracie is Husson University's center for the fine and performing arts. This beautiful new 500-seat theatre is quickly earning a reputation as one of Maine’s premier performance venues. In addition, the Gracie also serves as a learning platform for students from the New England School of Communications in digital audio, sound mixing, set design and construction, lighting, acting and electronics.
