Two Husson University Campuses to Feature Seminar on Trauma Resolution

Published on: April 7, 2014

Husson University’s Counseling and Human Relations graduate program, reFRESH Training Center, and Applied Metapsychology International have joined together to co-sponsor a four hour, continuing education seminar about post-traumatic stress and related disorders. The seminar, “Critical Issues in Trauma Resolution” will be held in three locations in Maine over a four-day period.

The first two seminar presentations will take place on Monday, April 7, at the Richard E. Dyke Center for Family Business on the campus of Husson University in Bangor, Maine. The next presentation of this seminar, co-sponsored by the Counseling and Human Relations program at Husson University, will take place in Farmington on April 8. Husson’s Southern Maine Campus in Westbrook will host the final two presentations of this seminar on Wednesday, April 9.

“In today’s society, people who go through traumatic experiences often face significant challenges to their well-being and mental health. This exceptional learning opportunity includes real-client videos of trauma resolution sessions,” said Deborah Drew, Ed. D., Director of the Counseling and Human Relations Program at Husson University.

“After participating in one of these seminars, mental health practitioners will have a better understanding and appreciation of the challenges associated with PTSD and related illnesses. In addition, it’s a great opportunity for licensed mental health professionals to earn four continuing education credits,” said Drew.

Dr. Robert Moore, CTS, BCETS, an Associate Fellow and Training Supervisor with the Albert Ellis Institute is the program presenter. He has more than 30 years of experience as a corporate and family crisis consultant and is certified in traumatic stress.

“Critical Issues in Trauma Resolution” will cover three main topics:
1. An examination of the clinical profile of post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSDs) and how they relate to other trauma-based disorders.
2. A comparison of the primary and secondary conditioned responses including those with and without flashbacks.
3. A discussion of trauma coping or management procedures and permanent resolution.

While the seminar is free, there is a nominal $19 charge for anyone interested in receiving a certificate of completion. For further information about the seminar objectives, CE hours, and registration availability, go to www.trauma-maine.eventbrite.com.
