Husson University Theatre Group to Perform The Lion in Winter at The Gracie

Published on: November 25, 2013

BANGOR, MAINE – November 22, 2013 – The Husson University Theatre (HUT) group will perform James Goldman’s two-act play, The Lion in Winter, on December 6 and 7 at 7:30 pm and on December 8 at 2:00 pm at the Gracie Theatre located on the campus of Husson University.

In describing the play, HUT President Kaitlin Patnode said, “The Lion in Winter centers around the dynamics of the royal family in 1183. Henry II, King of England, is charged with choosing a new heir to succeed his throne after the death of his eldest son. As chaos ensues, Henry must deal with his spiteful wife Eleanor, his naive mistress Alais and a visit from the young King of France, Philip.”

“During the course of the performance, audience members delight in the machinations of a dysfunctional family as they deal with politics, aging, death and inheritance. The play, intended as a comedy, deals with jealousy, rage and vengeance. James Goldman’s screenplay adaptation of The Lion in Winter won an Academy Award in 1968.”

Students from across Husson University, including the New England School of Communications (NESCom), are responsible for all aspects of the production including directing, costume design, set and lighting design, stage managing and acting. They have been rehearsing and preparing for this production since September.

Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students and children. Individuals interested in attending the performance can purchase tickets at the door or call 619-2488 to purchase tickets in advance. Contact Kaitlin Patnode at patnodek@students.nescom.edu for information about HUT.
