Charles P. Collins, Ed.D., Named Executive Director of Husson University’s Southern Maine Campus

BANGOR, MAINE – September 25, 2013 – Husson University announced today that Charles P. Collins, Ed.D., has been named executive director of the educational institution’s Southern
Maine campus. Collins brings more than 20 years of leadership experience working with Maine
community colleges to the position.
In his new role, Collins will be the primary administrator for all academic programs and operations at Husson University’s Southern Maine campus. This includes marketing, student enrollment, retention, and ensuring that all educational offerings maintain the high academic standards students and the business community have come to expect from Husson.

Our academic programs have been designed so that students are workforce ready upon graduation. Charlie’s vision and experience will help ensure that our graduates not only succeed, but become leaders in their chosen careers.”
Academic programs offered at Husson University’s Southern Maine campus include accounting,
business administration, computer information systems, hospitality management, criminal
justice, elementary education, and paralegal studies. Master's degree programs include
business administration, criminal justice administration, nursing, and counseling.
Prior to joining Husson University, Collins was the state director for the Maine Community
College System (MCCS) Early College for ME program. In this position, he provided leadership; strategic and budget planning; and continual research on best practices for a statewide highschool-to-college transition program.
While he was in this role, he also served as the interim president of Washington County
Community College in Calais, Maine. As interim president, Collins initiated and completed
facility improvements to campus housing and campus security; engaged in fundraising efforts; and represented the board of trustees and the MCCS System Office on personnel and contract issues.
From 1997 to 2006, Collins was the chief student services and enrollment officer at Central
Maine Community College in Auburn. In this position, he managed a staff of 16 professionals
including department heads from admissions, financial aid, housing and athletics. He was a key member of the institution’s executive team and helped initiate and execute strategic plans, new construction projects and annual budgets.
Prior to 1997, Collins held a variety of positions at Central Maine Technical College, Southern Maine Technical College and Kaplan University. His entire career has been devoted to helping higher education organizations thrive and grow.
Collins earned his doctor of education (Ed.D) degree in 2012. He also has a master of
business administration (MBA) from Thomas College (1993) and a bachelor of arts (BA) in
communication/political science from the University of New Hampshire (1987).
