Fourth Annual Research and Scholarship Day at Husson University

The Fourth Annual Research and Scholarship Day at Husson University was held April 25, 2013. Research and Scholarship Day is an opportunity for Husson to highlight the research and scholarship endeavors of our faculty and students while complementing the primary mission as a teaching institution.

Poster presentations and an oral platform session was followed by the announcement of Husson University’s 2013 Distinguished Faculty Research Award to Dr. Ben Sidaway, School of Physical Therapy. The keynote speaker was Dr. Habib J. Dagher, B.I.W. Professor of Structural Engineering, and Founding Director, Advanced Structures & Composites Center, University of Maine presented “What’s in Common Among Bridges, Ballistics, High-Speed Boats and Wind Turbines?”.

Poster presentations were available throughout the day culminating in the awarding of four Best Poster Awards for students. The Descriptive/Theoretical studies awards went to: Matthew Teague (faculty advisor Karl D. Bishop) for his poster on The Thermodynamics Stability of Junk DNA in the Human Genome; and a group poster by Karen Morren, Kim Steinbarger, Chelsea Buck, Elizabeth Dickey, Lauren Sylvain, and Aaron Woodman for Physical Therapy Clinical Instructors: Perspective on the Use of Social Media and Interactions with Students. The Experimental Awards went to: Sondra Siegel, Caitlyn Butterfield, Kacey Ireland, Anna Marceau, and Rachel Worcester for The Effectiveness of the Ossur Foot-Up Ankle Brace in Improving Gait Quality for People with Foot Drop; and Tracy Bantegui (co-author with Robert J. Ferguson, Ph.D., Sandra T. Sigmon, Ph.D., Sharon LaBrie, M.S., A. Merrill Garrett, M.D., and Thomas Penshaw, M.D.) for Videoconference CBT for Cognitive Dysfunction after Chemotherapy for Rural Breast Cancer Survivors: Baseline Finds and Methodological Challenges.
