Husson Award of Excellence

The Husson Award of Excellence is given to a graduating NESCOM student with outstanding academic achievement in his or her discipline, as well as outstanding service to the university and community.

Warren "Doc" Burn Award

Given in honor of Warren “Doc” Burns, this award, new this year, represents perseverance. Doc was a member of the Greatest Generation. He served in the Army Air Corps as a bomber radio operator for 19 combat missions. Communication became a theme for Doc as he taught public speaking & speech courses for the better part of 40 years. While perhaps not as intense as flying a combat mission, for students there is nothing scarier than public speaking. We were very fortunate to call him a colleague here at Husson as he guided our students for 20 years. This award is emblematic of Doc’s perseverance to get things done and is awarded to a student who has exhibited the determination and diligence to complete their degree despite any and all obstacles.

George Wildey Award

The George Wildey Award – George Wildey was the founder and president of The New England School of Broadcasting, which became the New England School of Communications and is now a part of the larger Husson University. This award goes to that one student, who, in the opinion of our program leaders, exemplifies the traits of humanitarian and professional achievement which George possesses and that exemplify the essence of NESCom with a positive and optimistic attitude and who regularly goes above and beyond that which is required.

Ben Haskell Award

The Ben Haskell Award is given in honor of our long-time Dean and colleague, Benjamin Haskell. As Dean, Ben had a strong interest in the academic success of our students and, through his work with American Field Service (AFS), held an abiding belief that exposure to world beyond our borders was an important component of higher education. This award is bestowed on a student who exhibits strong academic performance and who has demonstrated a commitment to global awareness.

Outstanding Achievement Awards

Outstanding Achievement Award – given for each of our concentration capstone courses based on solid academic achievement, combined with leadership skills, and the ability and willingness to mentor others

Exemplary Product Award

The Exemplary Work Product Award celebrates individual student achievement on a specific project; demonstrating a high level of practical application of the skills they have mastered at NESCom.

Professional Excellence Award

These students demonstrate a high level of experiential competence, strong work ethic and professional commitment to their work.

Honor Society

Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society:
The National Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society was officially established in 1977.  GPA ≥ 3.4 demonstrated academic excellence, hard work and integrity.  Inductees reflect the additional qualities of concern, humility, and a friendly spirit.
