Husson University Receives $684,000 HRSA Grant to Support Education of Nurse Practitioners (Date of Release:  07.23.2014)

The Graduate Nursing Program at Husson University is pleased to announce the award of a new round of federal funding that will help support the education full-time graduate students in the Family and Community Nurse Practitioner program, 2014-2016, through a combination of tuition support and stipends.  These grants are awarded every two years and HU has been fortunate to receive the award during each round of funding since 1994. Each student enrolled in the program receives internship training in rural and underserved areas; more than 80 percent of graduates supported by these grants at Husson have gone on to provide primary care in underserved settings

“This grant will help increase the number of primary care providers needed to meet the growing demand for medical care in rural Maine,” said Mary Jude, MPH, MSN, FNP-C, PA, Coordinator of Graduate Nursing Programs. “This is especially important to underserved rural communities, where healthcare providers and services are often difficult to obtain.”
