Biography

Dr. Shelby Helwig is an Assistant Professor at Husson. She received her B.S. in Psychology from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Maine. Shelby has taught a variety of courses including General Psychology, Research Methods, Social Psychology, and Applied Psychological Statistics. In her research, she takes a multi-method approach to investigate how individuals stand up to and cope with prejudice and discrimination. In particular, her dissertation investigated how women confront sexism and benefits of confronting for women’s psychological wellbeing and health.  Shelby’s goal for her courses is to illuminate the value that psychology has for student’s academic, professional, and personal development.
