Biography

Alicia Murray, DNP, is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at the University of Maine, her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education at St. Joseph College, and completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Population Health at Quinnipiac University. She has been a nurse for 40 years practicing in the fields of hospice and palliative care, acute care, population health, program development, and served 6 years in the Army reserves with the 1125th Army Hospital.

Dr. Murray is the Director of the Graduate Nursing program. She shares the goal of expanding advanced practice experiential learning in the online environment. Her philosophy of teaching is to move beyond passive learning to active mentorship and learning strategies. She fosters a sense of community in the online space by understanding the individual needs of students, creating an inter-active curriculum and ensuring students have a safe and constructive environment to learn in.

Dr. Murray holds national certifications as a nurse educator (CNE) and hospice and palliative care nurse (CHPN). She is actively involved with hospice and palliative care and the local, state and national level. She recently worked with the State of Maine, the Maine Hospice Council and included Husson nursing students to develop a Palliative Care Messaging program to educate healthcare consumers about the benefits of palliative medicine. She represents the university through board service for Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Northern Light Health System, Maine Hospice Council and the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center.

Dr. Murray co-presented at the Hanley Center for Health Leadership & Education on The Value of Palliative Care in Serious Illness in September of 2025. She also presented at Maine State Palliative Care & Messaging Conference on How to live your best life despite a serious illness. She presented at the University of Maine in Machias on Palliative care and you in May of 2025.
