Biography

Alicia Murray began her nursing education as an LPN in 1985. Subsequently, she completed her Associate’s degree at Eastern Maine Community College in 1989. She spent 6 years in the Army reserves during this time while working as an LPN and RN at Northern Light EMMC and St. Joseph Hospital in the areas of critical care, emergency department and cardiopulmonary nursing.  She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at the University of Maine, her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education at St. Joseph College, and completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Population Health at Quinnipiac University.

Alicia has practiced nursing for over 39 years in various settings. She spent over 30 years as a homecare and hospice nurse caring for patients at the end of life in their homes throughout 6 counties in Maine. She has program development experience with cardiac care, chronic illness management, telehealth programming and palliative care programming. She appreciates the diversity that the nursing profession allows. She received her certification in hospice and palliative nursing in 2000 and became a certified nurse educator in 2024. She began full-time with Husson in 2017. She currently serves as faculty and the director of graduate nursing with a goal of expanding experiential learning in the online environment.

Alicia has a strong commitment to community service. She was on the board of directors for the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association from 2017-2022. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center as the past president. She has been appointed to the board of directors for the Maine Hospice Council, Maine State Palliative Care and Quality of Life Committee and Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She has and continues to dedicate time to ensuring that rural Maine’s healthcare consumers have access to quality end of life care.
