Biography

Dr. Alex Alexiades is a Professor in Husson University's online Wildlife Biology program. He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resources from Cornell University, an M.S. in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a B.S. in Fish & Wildlife Biology from Montana State University. His areas of expertise include wildlife biology, freshwater and stream ecology, fisheries science, conservation biology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), with particular research focus on aquatic ecosystem responses to human disturbance, including hydrological alteration, species introductions, and nutrient dynamics.

Prior to joining Husson, Dr. Alexiades spent a decade as a Professor of Environmental Science at Heritage University, a Hispanic-Serving and Native American-Serving Institution in Washington State, where he taught courses in ecology, zoology, fisheries science, and GIS across classroom, field, and online formats, and developed a Fish & Wildlife/Natural Resources concentration integrating Traditional Ecological Knowledge into the curriculum. He has also served as Affiliate Faculty in Oregon State University's College of Forestry and held two Fulbright appointments, including a Fulbright U.S. Specialist role supporting ecohydrology and stream biogeochemistry research and training across participating institutions worldwide. His scholarship has appeared in journals including Ecological Applications, Freshwater Science, and Hydrobiologia, and he has secured over $7 million in competitive federal and foundation funding as principal investigator, co-principal investigator, or senior personnel, including multiple National Science Foundation awards. Dr. Alexiades maintains a continued research and mentorship interest in inclusive STEM pedagogy and expanding access to conservation science education for first-generation, rural, and Indigenous students.
