Earn your Occupational Therapy (OT) degree at Husson University and become a healthcare leader who can transform patients' lives.

As an occupational therapist, you’ll help people of all ages gain the skills and confidence they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives in their home, workplace and community. You’ll use problem-solving and creativity to:

  • Help people engage in meaningful activities: what they want to do and what brings meaning to their daily lives.
  • Assist patients and lead them to overcome and adapt to physical and emotional challenges so they can perform and engage in those activities.

The Husson Difference

Husson’s Occupational Therapy programs are driven by innovative, expert faculty who know what it takes to excel in this field. Here you’ll learn in specialized learning spaces and cutting-edge facilities such as the newly designed Occupational Therapy Lab that reflects a modern OT workplace; and the state-of-the-art Dahl Anatomy Lab, a cadaver lab where you’ll study functional anatomy and dissection.

OT Degree Options

Husson's School of Occupational Therapy offers multiple entry options for students in all different stages of their academic journeys. Whether you are currently enrolled at Husson University, transferring from another academic institution, or an applicant already holding a four-year undergraduate degree, Husson can help you achieve your goal of becoming an occupational therapist.

The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) is an entry-level graduate degree program that prepares students for a professional career in OT. This MSOT program takes three years to complete and is open to students have earned an undergraduate degree in any field.

The MSOT/Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and Public Health dual-degree program allows you to complete both your undergraduate coursework and earn your MSOT in just 5 years. This OT program involves two years of undergraduate studies and three years of professional-phase courses.

Learn More About Our OT Program

Upon graduating from Husson, one of the top OT schools in Maine, with an MSOT, you will be eligible to take the National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. NBCOT is located at One Bank Street, Suite 300, Gaithersburg, MD 20877-4150 and can be contacted at 301.990.7979. After successful completion of this exam, you will be an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR). Husson's NBCOT exam pass rate can be found on the NBCOT webpage. All states require licensure to practice, however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT examination. Please be aware that a felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT examination or attain state licensure.

Husson’s OT degree programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 6116 Executive Boulevard, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA. For more information about ACOTE, visit the ACOTE website.

Husson University’s School of Occupational Therapy prepares generalist practitioners who engage in client-centered contemporary practice and scholarship. We achieve this professional preparation by focusing on the following educational goals:

  • Educational Goal 1. Provide a learning environment that ensures the development of professional and personal leadership skills and values grounded in ethics and self-reflection.
  • Educational Goal 2. Promote best professional practice by developing students’ appreciation of health, wellness and meaningful participation in life through occupational engagement within and across diverse contexts and environments.
  • Educational Goal 3. Foster the development of evidence-based critical thinking and clinical reasoning in support of life-long learning.

The School of Occupational Therapy Mission Statement links to a number of institutional goals. We prepare generalist professionals for contemporary practice built on a solid foundation of sciences and humanities. Our focus on leadership grounded in ethics and self-reflection speaks to instilling responsibility and involvement. Our emphasis on occupational engagement within and across contexts and environments provides an appreciation for the diversity of those we work with as therapists. The development of evidence-based critical thinking and clinical reasoning promotes an understanding of the importance of life-long learning as well as the skills required to remain current and contemporary in the face of changing demands. Furthermore, our emphasis on the importance of evidence-based practice instills the importance of scholarship to the discipline. Finally, the number, depth and breadth of the fieldwork experiences offered speaks to the importance of experiential learning across the program.
