EH 123 placements are made by the university administrative assistants working together with the Chair of Humanities, the Writing Program Administrator, and the Office of Admissions. Advisors should take care in moving students between different EH 123 sections to make sure they are correctly placed.

Section A: Identifying Developmental Sections:
- All sections of EH 123 numbered 1 to 19 are developmental sections. All students in these sections must also be in a section of EH091L.
Section B: Identifying Developmental Sections with Online Labs:
- Students placed in EH 123-003 should be placed in EH 091L-I, and students in EH 123-006 should be placed in EH 091L-I2. No other students should be in these EH 091L sections.
- Students placed in EH 123-009 should be placed in EH 091L-I3, and students placed in EH 123-010 should be placed in EH 091L-I4. No other students should be in these EH 091L sections.
Identifying Regular Sections and Online Sections:
- All sections of EH 123 numbered 20 and above are regular sections and none of these students should be placed in a lab.
- EH123 online I7 courses are reserved for distance-learning students only. All other students should be placed in traditional EH123 classes.
Successful completion and moving on to EH124 and EH200+ courses
- Students must earn a grade of C or better in EH 123 to take EH124.
- Students must earn a grade of C or better in EH124 to take a literature course (literature elective or above). Students cannot take EH124 as a corequisite for a literature elective.
- Student registrations for EH124 and literature courses will be reviewed by the administrative assistant for the College of Science and Humanities to identify students who are incorrectly registered. They will be required to retake the previous course instead.
