Licensure Requirements

Additional post-graduation requirements for specific licensure 

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Masters)

Graduates must be licensed in the state in which they practice. In Maine that licensure exam is the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

School Counseling (Masters)

Graduates must be licensed in the state in which they wish to practice as K-12 school counselors (guidance). In Maine that requires the PRAXIS Exam # 075 (School Counselor).

Elementary Education (Undergraduate)

Graduates must be licensed in the state they wish to teach in. In Maine, the additional requirements are:

The following PRAXIS examinations:

PRAXIS: Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751) 

PRAXIS Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (5001)

Secondary Education (Undergraduate)

 

Graduates must be licensed in the state they wish to teach in. In Maine, the additional requirements are:

PRAXIS: Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751) 

English Track:

PRAXIS:

English Language Arts: Content Knowledge (5038)

 

Secondary Life Science Track:

PRAXIS: Biology: Content Knowledge (5235)

Secondary Physical Science Track: (Any of the following)

Chemistry: Content Knowledge (5245)

General Science: Content Knowledge (5435)

Physics: Content Knowledge (5265)

Pharmacy (Doctorate)

Graduates must pass the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) to gain licensure. States may also require additional exams, such as the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE).

Nursing (Undergraduate)

All graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to gain licensure.

Family Nurse Practitioner (Masters)

Graduates in Maine must pass the AANFP Family Nurse Practitioner certification exam OR  ANCC Family Nurse practitioner certification exam before becoming licensed.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Masters)

Graduates in Maine must pass the PMHNP-American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam before becoming licensed.

Physical Therapy (Doctorate)

Graduates must pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) before becoming licensed.

Physical Therapy Residency (Post-doctorate)

Graduates must pass the Sports Certified Specialist exam before becoming licensed.

Occupational Therapy (Masters)

Graduates must pass the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) before becoming licensed. 

Psychology (Undergraduate)

Graduates wishing to work under an MHRT/C certificate must fill out the application form at www.cfl-muskie.org and submit their official transcript after completing the approved course work.
