The mission of the School of Education is to prepare and graduate highly proficient and dedicated professionals in counseling, human relations, and education, who are committed to evidence-based principles and practices.

The School of Education is comprised of two distinct programs - the Teacher Education Program and the Graduate Counseling Program. We share our mission and our objective to provide superior preparation for the professions of teaching, counseling, and human relations. The Teacher Education Program prides itself on having the most hours of field work before student teaching of any teacher preparation program in the state of Maine. The Husson School of Education programs are built on a strong theoretical framework which models highly effective instructional strategies, current technologies, and research-based best practices. The rigorous coursework and rich experiences provided to students have been designed to prepare scholars for the demands of today's classrooms in a variety of educational settings.

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program is designed as a hybrid program for K-16 educators who desire to enhance their current knowledge and skills while earning a graduate degree. The unique focus of this program is the development of successful academic, social, and behavioral interventions using an inquiry-based approach. Throughout the required coursework, students will strengthen their understanding of effective instructional techniques and current research regarding best practice in the field of teaching. The Graduate Counseling Program offers four rigorous Master of Science degree programs designed to prepare professionals, following nationally recognized standards of quality, for evidence-based practice in Counseling and Human Relations fields. Graduate degree programs in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Pastoral Counseling provide students with curriculum aligned with requirements for national and state certifications and/or licensure. The MS in Human Relations program offers professionals in-depth study in human relations with the opportunity to tailor the program to specific interests in counseling, business, criminal justice, teaching, student services or other professions.
