The mission of the Husson College Physical Therapy Program is to graduate skilled and knowledgeable practitioners who are independent in their assessment of clients and collaborative with the health care team. Our program is designed to provide high school and college graduates with a thorough and efficient path to a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. We structure the program with a three-year pre-professional phase, followed by a three-year professional phase leading to a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.

Beginning Fall 2007, we will accept students into a post-baccalaureate DPT program. Students who have met all the pre-professional requirements will be able to enter the first year of the professional phase.

Your choice of a physical therapy program is extremely important in determining your growth as a person and developing your expertise as a Physical Therapist.

Faculty Committment
The Husson College Department of Physical Therapy faculty dedicate their efforts to

  1. Preparing students for a doctoring profession in a competitive entry-level physical therapy program that has recognized quality.
  2. Cultivating a positive learning environment, a strong culture of assessment and a culture of scholarship within the Program and throughout Husson College.
  3. Contributing to the advancement of knowledge through scholarly inquiry.
  4. Participating in and contributing to the advancement of the profession of physical therapy.
  5. Providing quality learning experiences consistent with the evaluative criteria of the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), the Normative Model of Physical Therapist Education, and the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice (2000).
Goals for Graduates
  1. Practice physical therapy as a generalist practitioner with high ethical and legal standards.
  2. Interact with clients, patients, family, colleagues, health care team members and the community with respect, caring, compassion, sensitivity to difference, and strong communication skills.
  3. Approach the patient management process, ambiguous health care situations, and complex problems with critical and reflective thinking.
  4. Are motivated to pursue life-long learning through continuing education, specialization, and/or advanced study.
  5. Serve as role models and leaders to advance health, wellness and prevention.
  6. Act as leaders in professional activities that promote the advancement of the profession of physical therapy.
Balanced Approach to Learning
Husson College is committed to balancing academic study with clinical experience, placing a high degree of responsibility on students for assessing and making decisions about their own education.
  • Academic faculty commit to providing the professional knowledge base, the development of appropriate critical-thinking skills, and the coordination of the clinical placements.
  • Clinical faculty assume primary responsibility for providing the appropriate hands-on learning experiences and evaluating the learner's performance.
  • Learners assume responsibility for monitoring and communicating their professional competencies according to their academic level, their acquisition of clinical learning experiences and skills, and their pursuit of individualized goals.
