Thank you for your interest in our newest graduate nursing program at Husson. Across the nation, there is a strong need and projected shortage of qualified nurse educators. In response to this, Husson University has developed our program to provide graduates with a strong foundation of pedagogy, the science of teaching, to compliment your role as an experienced clinician. Additionally, our graduates will acquire skill in integrating cutting-edge resources such as simulation, distance-learning and other technologies so important for 21st century educators to possess.
The Master of Science in Nursing
This concentration in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program will provide 40 credits of classroom and internship experiences for BSN-prepared nurses to pursue a graduate degree that will prepare them for an educator role in either an academic or health care institution. Students will take graduate and advanced practice graduate coursework with other MSN students and five clinical courses to prepare them for the education specialty.
The Post-Master's Certificate
A Post Master's Certificate option exists for individuals who are seeking to become either an academic or clinical nurse educator. The Post Master's Certificate is for individuals that have a Master of Science of Nursing from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) or the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE). The program requires 16-37 credits of classroom and clinical experience, depending on the student's prior experience.
Classes will be held Friday afternoons and evenings, or every other Saturday. Summer courses will be held on a week-night, or every other Saturday. The faculty recognizes that everyone needs some down time and we try very hard to keep August a month without classes. In addition, Husson utilizes different modes of distance education including interactive video and web-based discussion boards. Many of the program courses have this capability.
If you would like further information or wish to discuss the program, please contact Jeanne Harvey. She can make arrangements for a visit or telephone call, whichever meets your needs. Again, thank you for your interest and we hope you will continue to consider Husson University.
