Husson University Announces September 11th Pops on the Green Concert
Date of Release: August 22, 2011
Husson University and Bangor Savings Bank are proud to present a free community concert entitled "Pops on the Green" featuring the Bangor Symphony Orchestra with special guest Motor Booty Affair on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 2 p.m. The concert will be held in the Winkin Stadium located next to the gymnasium on the Husson campus. If the weather forces the event indoors, the concert will be held inside the Newman Gymnasium on the same date and time.
Along with Bangor Savings Bank, the event is sponsored by Quirk Auto Group, WLBZ-TV and the Bangor Daily News. Bill Green, host of the very popular WLBZ 2's Bill Green's Maine will be the emcee for the event.
"We are so pleased and proud to offer this wonderful family event to the community free of charge. Husson has been in Bangor since 1898. We are proud that Bangor is our home and this concert seems like a perfect way to reach out to our neighbors, friends and alumni and say thank you," said Husson President Bob Clark. "The Bangor Symphony Orchestra is one of the jewels of the Queen City and that along with Motor Booty Affair will make for a wonderful afternoon of music and fun."
The Symphony will perform a variety of Pops favorites including selections from the Sound of Music, Beatles and Star Wars. Motor Booty Affair, along with the Symphony, will perform some disco favorites including Barry White, Earth Wind and Fire and the Village People. The Symphony will also perform two pieces of music to honor our first responders and veterans. Along with the music there will be food and soft drinks available. If they wish, people are encouraged to bring a picnic basket to enjoy while they listen to the music. Sponsor tents and numerous student organizations selling various items will be located outside of the venue.
"We will also be remembering and honoring the events of September 11, 2001," said Julie Green, Director for Public Affairs. "We have invited first responders from area police and fire departments to be recognized during the concert. They will be providing some fire trucks and other equipment to have on display outside of the stadium. Husson University will also be paying tribute to all our veterans and current service men and women on this most important day. Members of the Husson University Veteran's Association will be on hand to receive that honor."
