Husson Announces New School

Husson University's College of Business announces a new School of Legal Studies. According to Dr. Ronald Nykiel, Dean of the College of Business "the new School encompasses our fast growing programs in Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies; two areas for potential job opportunities in Maine."
Nykiel added; "we are also pleased to announce a key appointment with the formation of the new School of Legal Studies." Marie Hansen, J.D. has been named Director of the School of Legal Studies in addition to her responsibilities as Executive Director Administrative Affairs for the College. As a native of Bangor, Maine, she earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science, with a minor in Public Administration from the University of Maine in Orono. She returned to practice law after she earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Maine School of Law. She continues her legal practice on an Of Counsel basis in the areas of mediation and Guardian Ad Litem work and as well as representing criminal defendants on appeals at the First Circuit Court Appeals in Boston, MA.
Most recently, Dr. Hansen completed the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard University and Mastery level of Prior Learning Assessment through DePaul University. She has been at Husson since 2003. Dr. Hansen is the Past-President (2004) of the Penobscot County Bar Association (PCBA) and continues to be on the Board of Directors with the PCBA as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the Bangor Ballet and various other organizations.
Nykiel stated: "Under Marie Hansen's leadership we will continue to grow the School of Legal Studies undergraduate and graduate degrees offerings presented at all three Husson sites, Bangor, Portland, and Presque Isle." Currently there are over 300 students enrolled in the degree programs at these campuses. There are a variety of undergraduate degree offerings in Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies as well as a Master in Criminal Justice Administration degree.
Husson's College of Business is the largest in Maine with nearly 1,400 students. It recently launched a new MBA degree with concentration in Corporate Management, Health Care Management, Hospitality, and Non-Profit Management.< back to all articles
