Audio Engineering at Husson University

DISCOVER THE CAREER POSSIBILITIES IN THE WORLD OF AUDIO ENGINEERING

If you're interested in the world of sound – whether that means recorded music or the sonic effects that bring film, TV shows and video games to life – then a job in an audio engineering field may be right for you.

Preparing for a career as an audio engineer requires an in-depth understanding of the physics of sound and electricity, an understanding of music and audio fundamentals, and hands-on training in recording, mixing and editing sound using microphones and recording studios. In the Audio Engineering program offered at Husson University's New England School of Communication (NESCom), you will have the opportunity to study all those elements and more, getting the preparation, skill and expertise you need to excel in a career as an audio engineer.

Why Husson

In Husson's unique Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering degree program, you can choose between three specific concentrations: live sound production, music production or post-production. Live sound production focuses on mixing and operating sound for live events and productions; music production delves into the skills needed to successfully produce and record music in the studio; and finally, post-production delves into the training needed to add sound and music to other media, like TV shows, videos, films and games. Depending on your interests and ultimate career goals, you're certain to find a concentration that inspires you.

Beyond the specific concentrations, you will learn audio engineering fundamentals and take courses introducing the science behind audio and studio recording. You'll learn in Husson's state-of-the-art facilities, developing your skills and passions using professional quality equipment and tool. You'll also have opportunities to put your skills to the test outside the classroom, recording audio for student projects and performances. As an audio engineering student, you'll also have the opportunity to meet and learn from your peers in NESCom's student chapter of the Audio Engineering Society.

We also offer official Avid Pro Tools Certification courses, if you're looking to open up more career opportunities.

Career outlook

Depending on the concentration you choose, you'll discover a wide range of career opportunities as an audio engineering expert. Music production students can look forward to careers as recording engineers, producers, mixing engineers, Pro Tools editors, mastering engineers or put it all together as recording studio owners or managers, to name just a few career paths. Live production students often find careers as mixers and engineers for live events, designing and running sound systems, as well as operating lighting systems and monitor mixing. Post production students have many opportunities in the world of film and TV, working as music editors, music supervisors, sound designers, sound effects editors, ADR recordists, Foley artists and many more. With so many career opportunities for audio engineers, there's no doubt that an audio engineering degree from Husson is a sound investment.
