Full-time Employees

Vacation (Staff Only):
Unless stated otherwise in the letter of employment, 12 vacation days are earned per year, accrued as earned with each pay date. Days of earned vacation may increase depending on years of service as listed in the employee handbook, to a maximum of 21 days per year. Up to 80 hours of accrued vacation may be carried into each new calendar year.

Sick Leave (Staff Only):
Employees earn 12 sick days per year, accrued as earned with each pay date. Unused sick leave will accumulate to be used to offset the waiting period for disability insurance payments. All sick leave is forfeited upon resignation, retirement, or other termination of employment.

Holidays (Staff/Faculty):
Husson University observes approximately 10 paid holidays per year: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day (taken the 1st day of spring break), Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day (some years replaced with a floating holiday), Columbus Day, Thanksgiving (2 days), and Christmas. Holiday benefits do not apply to part-time employees. The holiday schedule is subject to change each year.

Group Health and Dental Insurance and FSA (Staff/Faculty):
Husson University provides a choice of 3 health insurance plans through Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HMO, PPO, and HSA-PPO) and provides a designated amount toward the cost. A group dental plan is available for all full-time employees. The dental plans are voluntary and paid for by the employee. Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts are also available. These benefits, if elected, take effect on or coincident with the first of the month following the employee's date of hire.

Life Insurance/AD&D (Staff/Faculty):
Husson University provides primary life insurance coverage equal to two times the employee's annual gross salary to a maximum benefit of $500,000. There is no charge to the employee for this plan and coverage is effective upon employee's date of hire.

Disability Insurance (Staff/Faculty):
Short Term and Long Term Disability insurances are provided for each full-time employee at no cost to the employee and coverage is effective upon employee's date of hire.

Voluntary Retirement Program (Staff/Faculty):
Husson University provides a 403(b) defined contribution plan with VALIC. Eligible employees may establish their 403(b) account(s) at any point during their employment with Husson; however, Husson University will begin employer contributions only after one continuous year of service and a minimum of 1,000 hours worked. Once the employee has established an account and has met the eligibility requirements, Husson University will contribute an amount equal to 2% of the employee's gross compensation whether or not the employee contributes; this amount is increased by 4% if the employee contributes 3% or more. The maximum employer contribution is 6%.

Tuition Exemption (Staff/Faculty):
After six months of employment, full time employees, their spouses, and their dependent children are eligible to enroll in Husson University courses and have the tuition waived, subject to terms and conditions in the full Tuition Exemption Policy. Part-time employees have partial tuition exemption benefits. The full policy is available in the Human Resource Office (and on the Husson University Intranet). This document is subject to change at any time.
