The Organization of Physical Therapy Students (OPTS) is an on-campus organization for physical therapy students. OPTS focuses on educating the Bangor area as well as the Husson community about physical therapy. We also support the physical therapy students throughout their journey within the program. We raise money for Alpha One, a local organization that supports independent living for individuals with disabilities, through our Annual Event-Wheel Chair Basketball. Last year we raised over $1900 for this cause. OPTS also supports a local food pantry (Manna) via an annual food drive as well as the senior DPT class through a senior gift. OPTS encourages student involvement and a feeling of community by holding PT fun nights. These nights provide a time for all of the PT classes to network with each other and gain knowledge about educational and professional expectations surrounding physical therapy. We hold a therapeutic massage night, show educational movies, welcome guest speakers, and provide educational presentations. By having these PT fun nights, we can support the professional phase students by allowing them to practice and improve previously learned skills. These fun nights also provide encouragement and support for pre-professional students to get involved and understand what physical therapy is all about. We encourage all physical therapy students to get involved. Finally, participation in OPTS helps students meet their co-curricular and community service requirements for graduation.
