This guide lists sources of information for physical therapy. It is not inclusive,
but is meant to provide a starting place when you are looking for information.

Finding Books
Use Minerva, the library's online catalog, to search for books owned by the
library. To search Minerva, click on Finding Books and
then Go to Minerva. For more information about searching
Minerva, click on Get tips on searching Minerva.
Typical subject headings to search under include:physical therapy; manipulation
(therapeutics); kinesiology, movement disorders; and anatomy. Also, try combining
the term physical therapy with other terms to narrow your search results. For
browsing purposes, the call number ranges for the majority of physical therapy
books are QS (human anatomy), WB 460 through WB 545 (physical therapy), and
WE (musculoskeletal system).
Finding Journal Articles
Click on Finding Articles. Click on Go
to Online Resources and Journal Indexes. There are two ways to find articles
in journals. You may choose an index or resource from the alphabetical list,
or you may look only at the Health Sciences and Rehabilitation
Resources. A few of the appropriate resources for physical therapy topics
are described below. You have to check our to see if Sawyer Library owns the
journal an article is in.

available.
BIOSIS Previews
A bibliographic index to the literature of the biological and biomedical sciences
from 1969 to the present. Subjects covered include agriculture, biochemistry,
bioengineering, botany, ecology, genetics, microbiology, pharmacology, and
zoology. Approximately 5,500 serial publications as well as books, proceedings
and meeting abstracts, technical reports, review papers, and patents are
indexed. Searches can be limited to review articles.
Health Source Plus An index of articles from more than 270 health journals, 1,100 health
pamphlets, and 20 health reference books. *It includes the
full text of many articles. Searches may be limited to only peerreviewed articles.
Nursing and Allied Health Collection – Basic A full-text index of articles from 100 journals covering the areas
of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences, consumer health and allied health
disciplines. Searches may be limited to only peerreviewed articles.
PubMed (Medline) A free Internet version of the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE
database, it is an index of articles covering the fields of medicine, nursing,
dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical
sciences. It contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more
than 4,000 biomedical journals published in the
United States
and 70 other countries. *Articles can be ordered via the interlibrary
loan service called Lonesome Doc. To register, follow on-screen registration
directions. The library's LIBID is MEUHUS.
FirstSearch A service which provides access to approximately 60 bibliographic
and full-text databases. *Searches may be limited to articles found only in
journals owned by the Husson Library. It includes the following indexes that
are most appropriate for physical therapy:
Article1st
A bibliographic index to articles from nearly 12,500 journals.
BasicBIOSIS An index of basic information about biology and other life sciences.
General Science Abstracts A bibliographic index to articles form more than 100 leading journals
in the field of science, covering such subjects as nutrition, chemistry & physics.
PsychINFO
A bibliographic index to articles on the subject of psychology and the
psychological aspects of other topics (including rehabilitation) from
over 1,400 American and international journals.
Cochrane Library
A database containing reviews of evidence-based medical research.
