Husson University to Host Lecture with International Best Selling Author Dr. Tess Gerritsen
Date of Release: November 30, 2011
Husson University's School of Legal Studies will host international best-selling author Dr. Tess Gerritsen on December 7th at 2pm in the Gracie Theatre as part of the University's Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.
The lecture will be held in conjunction with Dr. Gerritsen's newest book in the Rizzoli and Isles series of novels entitled "The Silent Girl". The series, featuring homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles, inspired the TNT television series "Rizzoli & Isles" starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander.
Dr. Gerritsen acknowledges the Husson University Criminal Justice Club in the back of the book for their assistance in researching several details in novel. The students provided research regarding animal primate hair and samurai swords, both of which played a key role in the plot of the story.
Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice John Michaud, who worked with Dr. Gerritsen to connect her with the Husson Criminal Justice Club, stated, "Assisting Dr. Gerritsen with research for 'The Silent Girl' was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience for these students. They were able to use the research skills they are learning through their program and see how important it is to solving complex cases like the one outlined in the book."
Dr. Gerritsen's books have been top-5 bestsellers in the United States and abroad. She has won both the Nero Wolfe Award (for "Vanish") and the Rita Award (for "The Surgeon"). Critics around the world have praised her novels as "pulse-pounding fun" (Philadelphia Inquirer), "scary and brilliant" (Toronto Globe and Mail), and "polished, riveting prose" (Chicago Tribune). Publisher Weekly has dubbed her the "medical suspense queen". Now retired from medicine, she writes full time. Dr. Gerritsen lives in Maine.
Following this presentation, Dr. Gerritsen will autograph copies of her book for those in attendance. Soft cover copies of her earlier novels will also be available for purchase.
