Physical Therapy (PT) is a healthcare profession that works to optimize a person’s function and movement. Physical therapists use examination, diagnosis and treatment to correct movement dysfunction; reduce pain resulting from injury, disease or disability; and prevent further movement dysfunction.

Husson offers an accredited Doctorate of Physical Therapy program (DPT) organized in a “3+3” year format. Students entering directly from high school complete three years of pre-professional courses, then progress to the three-year professional phase of the program. Students choosing to enter as a freshman into year one of the program will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree at the completion of the fourth-year course requirements.

During the first three years, the pre-professional phase courses in the arts and sciences fulfill Husson’s general education requirement and prepare the students for the three-year professional phase of the program.

During the three-year professional phase of the program, students take a wide variety of applied science and clinical practice courses. Students enrolled in the professional phase will be required to complete three clinical affiliations, some scheduled over the summer months. When all professional phase requirements are met, students receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).

Physical Therapists establish rewarding careers in private practices, hospitals, health and fitness centers, retirement and rehabilitation centers, schools and industry. Research and education organizations also offer career opportunities. According to a 2012 study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary of physical therapists nationwide is $79,860.
