Husson University Announces 114th Commencement Exercises

Husson University will conduct two commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2013. In Bangor, on Saturday, May 11, 2013, nearly 600 degrees will be awarded at 10:30 a.m. in the Winkin Athletic Complex. 250 graduate degrees will be presented including 77 doctoral degrees. Husson will graduate its first class of students receiving the Doctor in Pharmacy.

The speaker at the Bangor Commencement will be renowned author Tess Gerritsen, a resident of Camden, Maine. Dr. Gerritsen is considered one of the finest suspense writers in the world and has sold nearly 30 million books. She is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of California at San Francisco, where she received her M.D. Prior to becoming a full time author, she practiced internal medicine. She will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration will be Husson alumnus Sae Il Lee of Seoul, South Korea. Mr. Lee received a B.S. in Business Administration from Husson in 1972 and received his MIB from the Thunderbird School of International Management in Arizona. He is a successful businessman and entrepreneur in Southeast Asia in the textile and auto parts industries. 

On Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m., Husson will hold its Southern Maine Commencement at Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland. The speaker will be Charles E. Miller, Esq. retiring Chief Executive Officer at Bernstein and Shur. Nearly 100 degrees will be awarded at the Portland ceremonies including 24 graduate degrees.

Valedictorian of the graduating class Emily M. Hanna, a native of Dixmont, will receive a Bachelor of Science in English, summa cum laude. She is a graduate of Central Vermont Academy and plans to go on to graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition. The Salutatorian is Paul E. Robinson of Bucksport, who will receive a B.S. in Accounting, summa cum laude, and an MBA. Mr. Robinson has accepted a position at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Boston.
