Husson University and the Gracie Theatre was proud to host the 2013 Poetry Out Loud State Finals on Wednesday, March 20th. Ten students from high schools throughout Maine competed for the chance to represent Maine at the national finals in Washington, DC. The competition began with an introduction and poetry reading from Presidential Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco. Blanco recited the inaugural poem, "One Today".

8,000 students have been competing since December for ten spots in the state final of Poetry Out Loud - the national poetry recitation program organized by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The competition is administered at the state level by the Maine Arts Commission.

The student to walk away with the top prize was Waynflete School's Dyer Rhoads '15.
