Circulation Policy

Eligible users
Students, faculty, and staff with a valid Husson ID card or community users with a Sawyer Library card may check items out of the library.  Community users may apply for a library card at the Service Desk.

Responsibilities of users
Users are responsible for all items checked out on their cards.  They must keep track of the due dates for all items.  They are responsible for notifying the Library of any changes in address and contact information.

Loan periods
Students and community users may check out books and government documents for 3 weeks. Faculty and staff may check out these items for 6 weeks.  All users may check out media items (DVDs and CDs) for 1 week.  There is no limit to the number of items a user may check out.  Remember to be considerate of fellow library users and check out only the items you need and return them when you are finished.  Loan periods may be extended over holiday, semester and summer breaks.  Most periodicals (journals, magazines and newspapers) and reference books do not circulate.  Issues of current print journals (2017-present) can be checked out for 7 days by students, faculty and staff.

Check out procedure
Bring items and a valid library card to the Service Desk where they will be checked out electronically.  The due date will be stamped on a slip in the back of the items(s).

Renewals
A borrowed item may be renewed if it has not been recalled or placed on hold for another user.  Renewals may be made in person, by phone (207-941-7188) or online (reference@husson.edu).  Pick up a handout in the library for online renewal instructions.  The user's name and/or library card number must be provided in order to renew items.  Items are renewed for the same period of time as the original loan.  Items may be renewed up to three times before they must be returned.

Holds
Users may place a hold (reserve) on an item that is checked out so that when the item is returned, they will be notified and given the first opportunity to borrow the item next.  Holds are placed through the Minerva catalog.  Pick up a handout in the library for instructions.  Items that have a hold on them for another user cannot be renewed, and must be returned immediately.

Returning items
Items should be returned to the Service Desk.  

Overdue items
No fine is assessed for books, government documents, or media items that are returned within two weeks of the due date

Lost items
Three weeks after the due date the Student Accounts Office will be notified to bill users’ accounts the price of each unreturned item, plus a $10.00 processing fee.  When overdue items are found and returned, user accounts will be credited.  IMPORTANT:  THE $10.00 PROCESSING FEE WILL NOT BE CREDITED OR RETURNED
