With a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in English, where Stephanie taught for the past fifteen years before coming to Maine, Stephanie teaches writing and literature courses, specializing in women's literature, American literature, and theory. Her dissertation centers on the notion that Willa Cather, in her own fin de siecle conservatism, is actually a radical critic of American consumer culture. With an affinity for virtually all periods of literature, Stephanie's favorite is the period in America from Emerson to the 1930s, including expatriate women writers, and the so-called regionalist writers like Maine's own Sarah Orne Jewett of the late nineteenth century. She is also partial to the British Romantics, especially William Blake, and to George Eliot, as well as to the British Modernists.

My favorite thing in teaching is introducing students to the idea that their own ideas actually have a history, and that many of the same contradictions in the culture today have been present in American culture since our beginnings. Many of the ideas Emerson or Whitman were wrestling with are still with us. I also continue to teach writing, not only in composition courses, but in all my courses. In my opinion, good writing and close reading are the most valuable skills students acquires in college life since they enable students to become critical thinkers about their own lives, and about the world around them and the information presented to them from that world.

Cliff Guthrie received his B.A. from Duke University, his M.Div. from Candler School of Theology, and his Ph.D. from Emory University. He taught for fifteen years in theological education at Emory University and Bangor Theological Seminary, during which time he published many books and articles in practical theology. In 2007 he joined the faculty at Husson University where he teaches and writes in the fields of ethics, philosophy, and religion and coordinates the philosophy area of the School of Science and Humanities and the annual Husson Symposium on Ethics and the Sacred. His most recent publication is for the journal Ethics and Behavior entitled, “Smart Technology and the Moral Life.”

I think we are witnessing what E.O. Wilson calls "Consilience" -- the bringing together of human knowledge made possible by new research in the human sciences, the breakdown of walls between academic disciplines, and the growing possibilities for collaboration and exchange via technology. As a teacher, I push students to take advantage of these new directions in the flow of information so that they become players in the times in which we live. This means helping them become active learners, people who practice habits of paying attention to the world, taking intellectual risks, and accepting responsibility for the challenges that face us. To my mind, teaching is the human art of drawing out our finest ideas and abilities, which we too often find frightening and hide. I often remember Maine's own Oscar Remick, a beloved philosophy professor and college administrator who, when asked, "And what do you teach, Professor?" replied simply, "Why students, of course."

Craig comes to Husson with 30 years of diverse experience in finance, operations, customer service and administrative functions. His work has encompassed many types of industries across 15 business segments in both privately owned small business and Fortune 500 Companies such as Nike, Timberland, Honeywell and News Corp in addition to public accounting experience at Deloitte Touche, a big four accounting and consulting firm.

Born in the suburbs of New York City, Craig relocated to New England in 1983 for the quality of life. He currently resides with his wife Kerry and two sons Aaron and Aidan in Owls Head. He has an M.B.A. from Columbia University and a B.S. from the University of Richmond.

As a native of Bangor, Marie earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science, with a minor in Public Administration and the Honors Program from the University of Maine. She returned to Bangor to practice law after she earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Maine School of Law. Today, Marie continues her legal practice on an Of Counsel basis in the areas of federal criminal appellate, mediation and Guardian Ad Litem work.

She began working at Husson in 2003, where she has delivered a variety of classes in over 24 topics ranging from introductory courses through graduate level. She has also presented courses for the Maine State Bar and at national conferences for Criminal Justice teachers and professionals.

Marie completed the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard University in 2010 and attained Mastery level of Prior Learning Assessment through DePaul University. Currently, she is pursuing further doctoral studies in Organizational Behavior at the Chicago School for Professional Psychology.

Outside of Husson, she is the Past-President (2004) of the Penobscot County Bar Association (PCBA) and past Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Bangor Ballet. She continues to serve as a Director on the PCBA Board. Additionally, she is serving on the Advisory Committees for Hancock County Technical Center Criminal Justice Program and Biddeford Regional Technical Center.

Having worked with legal professionals, I understand that the key to education at the college level is to learn how to perform the work hands-on. While it is imperative to have a background from text books to learn the law, in order to apply this knowledge, one must see the legal world in action. In both the Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies Programs, I endeavor to find full time and adjunct instructors that bring this philosophy to life in the classroom as I do. One has to love what they do to be ready to do a job everyday and the exposure that students will gain from both programs will help them find that energy.

Betty J. Harris is Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and APPE Coordinator at Husson University's School of Pharmacy in Bangor, Maine. Prior to joining the faculty at Husson, Dr. Harris was Assistant Dean of Experiential Education and Student Services at NSU College of Pharmacy from 2006 to 2011. She joined academia after an extensive career in long-term care and specialty pharmacy care with Colonial Drugs and Pharmerica.

Prior to joining PharMerica, Dr. Harris practiced in community chain pharmacy and worked part-time in hospital settings. She is a graduate of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (formerly Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science) and received her Pharm.D. degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Harris is currently serving as the Treasurer of the Florida Pharmacy Association and Chair of the Policy Affairs Committee for AACP. Dr. Harris was appointed to the ACPE Board of Directors by APhA and served as a member from 2002 to 2008. She served as the 1998-99 Speaker of the APhA House of Delegates and as APhA Trustee from 1997 to 2002, Dr. Harris has served on APhA policy and reference committees. She is a past president and past speaker of the Florida Pharmacy Association (FPA), past Speaker of the FPA House of Delegates, and past president of the Florida Pharmacy Foundation, and has served as a trustee of the Foundation.
