CPT Justin Potts enlisted in the Army in 2001 and earned a commission in 2004 through the early commissioning ROTC program at New Mexico Military Institute. CPT Potts continued his education at the University of Central Oklahoma attaining a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science in 2007. Upon completion of his degree he was assigned as an Infantry Officer to the 45th Infantry Brigade out of Oklahoma. In 2008, CPT Potts deployed to Diyala Province, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Heavy Weapons Platoon Leader.
After returning to Oklahoma, CPT Potts was assigned as a Rifle Company Executive Officer in the 1st Battalion 179th Infantry. CPT Potts was again deployed to Lagman Province, Afghanistan from 2011 â€“ 2012 as part of the Brigade Operations cell and Company Commander for Battle Company 1st Battalion 179th Infantry. CPT Potts attended the Maneuver Captains Career Course in Fort Benning, Georgia in 2013 after returning from his second deployment. Upon completion of the Career Course, CPT Potts was hired as a contracted ROTC instructor assigned to the University of Maine.
