This course prepares the student to perform an important role as a member of the healthcare team by developing the ability to transcribe machine dictation by physicians and other health care professionals. Students learn to key accurate medical documents including autopsy reports; discharge summaries, operative, pathology, and radiology reports; history and physical examinations, progress chart notes; and patient consultations in the style prescribed by the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT). Emphasis is place on the proper use of medical terms and correct proofreading techniques.

The course prepares the student for an office professional role in a modern electronic office. Students will learn the importance of soft skills such as human relations, office ethics, stress management, and team building. Daily office routines including records management, meeting and conference planning, scheduling with calendaring software, proper telephone techniques, and customer service will be covered. Students are required to research business topics and communicate the information in a multimedia presentation. This capstone course integrates the skills acquired in previous business classes in an office simulation.
