is meant to provide a starting place when you are looking for information. For
additional information, please talk with a librarian.
Typical subject headings to search under include: Education;
Universities and Colleges; Teaching; Learning; Students; Distance Learning. Also,
try combining the terms Education and Educational with
other terms to narrow your search results. For browsing purposes, the call
number ranges for the majority of education books are: L

Locating Journal Articles
There are two ways to find articles in journals--you may choose an index or
resource from the alphabetical list, or, you may look only for the indexes
and resources appropriate for education. Click

A few of the appropriate resources for education are described below. You will
then have to check our List
of Journal Subscriptions to see if the Sawyer Library owns the
journal an article is in. Print copies of this list are available in the
library.
Academic Search Premier An index of articles from more than 1,320 journals covering the
social sciences humanities, general science, multi-cultural studies, education
and much more. *It includes
the full text of many articles. Searches may be limited to only peer

Britannica Online It provides fast electronic access to the text and illustrations
from Encyclopedia Britannica's vast 44 million-word database (15th ed.),
including over 500 maps, the Britannica Book of the Year, and Merriam-Webster's
Collegiate Dictionary (10th ed.). It also features thousands
of direct hypertext links from Britannica articles to related sources of

ERIC It indexes and abstracts journal articles and documents on education
research and practice, from 1966 to the present. *It
includes the full text of many articles. (Off-campus access: last name & library

MasterFILE Premier An index of articles from over 1,770 periodicals covering nearly
all subjects including general reference, business, health and much more. *It
includes the full text of many articles. Searches may be limited to only peer
reviewed articles. (Off-campus access: last name & library barcode
number preceded by HUS)
FirstSearch A collection of approximately 40 bibliographic and full-text databases. *Searches
may be limited to articles found only in journals owned by the Sawyer Library.
It includes the following indexes that are most appropriate for education:
Article1st A bibliographic index to articles from nearly 12,500 journals.
Education Abstracts
A bibliographic index to articles from more than 400 English- language
journals and yearbooks in the field of education.
ERIC An index of more than 85,000 annotated citations to articles and reports
in the field of education.
