This guide lists sources of information for computer information systems. It
is not inclusive, but is meant to provide a starting place when you are looking
for information. For additional information, please talk with a librarian.
Locating Books
Use Minerva, the library's online catalog, to search for books owned by the
library. To search Minerva, click on Finding Books and
then Access Minerva Now. Typical
subject headings to search under include: Computer
Networks, Computer Programming, Expert Systems,Information Storage and Retrieval, JAVA,
Local Area Networks, Visual Basic, Web Sites, etc . Also, try combining
the term Computers with other terms to narrow your search results. For browsing
purposes, the call number range for the majority of computer information systems
books is: QA 76.5 - 76.95 (Computers
and Computer Science), TK 5102 (Telecommunications & Computer
Networks). Also, books about the use of computers in a specific occupation
(i.e. accounting, law, nursing) will be shelved with those topics.
Locating Journal Articles
Click on Finding Articles. Scroll
down and click on the Go to Online Resources
and Journal Indexes Now link. To find articles in journals, choose an index
or resource from the alphabetical list. Or, click on one of the subject areas
to see only the indexes and resources appropriate for that subject. A few of
the appropriate ones for business topics are listed below. You will then have
to check our List
of Journal Subscriptions to see if Sawyer Library owns the journal
an article is in. The list may be accessed from the library's Finding
Articles page. Printed copies are also available.
Academic Search Premier An index of articles from more than 1,320 journals covering the social
sciences, humanities, general science, multi-cultural studies, education, and
much more. *It includes the full
text of many articles. Searches may be limited to only peerreviewed articles.

Business Source Premier An index of articles from more than 1,000 journals covering business,
management, economics, finance, banking, accounting, and much more. *It
includes the full text of many articles. Searches may be limited to only peerreviewed articles.

Britannica Online Includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's
Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, Britannica Student Encyclopedia and
the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use EncyclopaediaBritannica
Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 300,000
links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.

FirstSearch A collection of approximately 40 bibliographic and
full-text databases. *Searches
may be limited to articles found only in journals owned by the Sawyer Library.

A bibliographic index to articles from nearly 12,500 journals.
Applied Science
and Technology Index A bibliographic index that provides information on management, careers
and employment, and financial trends in the scientific and technological fields.
Internet and
Personal Computing Abstracts Updated monthly, this database includes news, articles, reviews, and product
announcements from 186 popular magazines and professional journals on microcomputing
for business, education, industry and the home.
Wilson Business Abstracts A bibliographic index of articles from more than 345 leading business journals.
