Alicia Wilcox earned her Bachelor’s degree with double honors in chemistry and statistics from the National University of Ireland. She holds Master of Science degrees in forensic science and criminal justice administration from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland and Husson University, respectively.

Alicia worked for the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in Dublin, Ireland as a forensic scientist. She was responsible for researching and implementing procedures for analyzing anabolic steroids and the date rape drug GHB. Alicia was employed by the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory for almost a decade as a forensic scientist specializing in impression evidence. She has processed numerous crime scenes and has qualified as an expert witness in district, superior and federal courts in Maine. Alicia has been part of a team of scientists and detectives that have re-analyzed evidence in cold cases and have successfully brought unsolved homicides to trial.

Staying active in the forensic science community is important to Alicia. She holds four certifications from the International Association for Identification (IAI); Certified Senior Crime Scene Examiner, Certified Latent Print Examiner, Certified Footwear Examiner and Certified Forensic Photographer. In addition to Alicia’s responsibilities at Husson, she is a past president and current board member of the New England Division of the IAI. She is also a member of the Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences (NEACJS).

I am a certified law enforcement instructor through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. In this capacity I have had the opportunity to teach over fifty lectures and workshops around the State of Maine to police cadets through seasoned investigators. Through my teaching experience I have learned that practical application of theory facilitates classroom comprehension and retention. I am passionate about forensic science and strive to draw my students into this fascinating application of science to law. My students learn that as laws are updated and court requirements change the evidence will still speak its own truth. It is our responsibility to interpret this truth correctly.

With an M.Ed. from Cambridge College and an Ed.D. from the University of Maine, Sandip has a passionate interest in children's nonfiction literature, how it can be used in classrooms, can be used to support literacy programs, and connect families and schools. While Dr. Wilson started out as a history and social studies teacher, she realized that without literacy, students could not function in the content areas, so she brings a love of history and historical thinking to her study of children's literature. Dr. Wilson currently serves as the Chair of the Orbis Pictus Award Committee for the National Council of Teachers of English. This committee was established in 1989 to honor the outstanding non-fiction literature written for children. She has also been appointed to serve a three year term on the Executive Board of the New England Reading Association, as of March 2006. She is a tapestry designer and weaver and has explored how tapestry has changed as literacy has developed and how tapestry weaving shares parallel features with writing.

The courses I teach are interactive and integrate both theory and practice. I strive to give my students knowledge and experience in teaching so that they can bring multiple approaches and strategies to their work with the children.

Dr. Withers received his BS degree in biology from Syracuse University and his Ph.D. in genetics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1989. Don worked for fifteen years as a research scientist in the field of cancer biology. He started teaching at Husson in 2008.

Gerald received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Cincinnati and worked as a Systems Engineer for a number of years in the paper industry. While there, he oversaw the applications development efforts and established a number of standards and guidelines for improving the quality of the software produced. He has been at Husson since 2001, originally as an adjunct faculty, sharing his passion for Information Technology. Several years ago, Gerald started his own computer consulting company where he was recognized as an Independent Software Vendor for his development work on a Windows Certified commercially available application. In addition, Microsoft recently presented him with two awards: the Microsoft Front Runner award, and the Microsoft Certified Partner award.

No other thing has done more to shape our lives over the last quarter century than computers. Data and technology are everywhere, and how we interact with it and use it continues to change at an unbelievable pace. I share my passion for Technology with my students and stress the importance of becoming lifetime learners. Teaching them to effectively leverage the current hardware and software helps prepare them for an I.T. job. Teaching them those skills that transcend technology; such as logic, critical thinking, problem solving, and most importantly communication; is equally if not more meaningful. It is these skills that will prepare them for an I.T. career.

John was born and raised in the coal region of northeastern Pennsylvania. He moved to Maine in 1989 form Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he worked as a clinician at The Cambridge Hospital. For twenty years prior to arriving at Husson, John was clinical supervisor for the Penobscot Nation Counseling Services and adjunct assistant professor in counselor education at the University of Maine. John completed his doctorate in counselor education at the University of Maine, and also holds a master’s degree in philosophy from Fordham University and masters in counseling psychology from Slipper Rock State University. He taught philosophy at Loyola University in Baltimore for several years and trained in both pastoral ministry and theology. John is also a certified yoga instructor who both practices and teaches locally. John is currently serving in a leadership position for the Maine Counseling Association. In addition to being a counselor educator, John enjoys a variety of outdoor activities during all seasons.

I really enjoy both teaching and sharing my experience with students who are entering the career of professional counseling. Counselors have such a wonderful opportunity to facilitate both personal and social transformation n on many levels. I really identify with the American Counseling Associations 20-20 Vision Statement definition of counseling that states: “Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals”. “Empowerment” is a value that I believe should be woven into the vocation of counseling in whatever setting it is practiced.
